RHS Summer Academies- Enrichment Opportunities
*All enrichment courses run for 2 weeks and are 1.5 hours a day.*
Middle School Math Foundations:
This two-week enrichment course offers an interactive environment for students to solidify their middle school math foundations through engaging, hands-on activities. Participants will master essential pre-algebra skills, including the order of operations, fractional fluency, and basic equation solving, in a low-pressure setting. By bridging the gap between concrete arithmetic and abstract thinking, the curriculum turns math anxiety into a genuine interest in mathematical exploration. Students will leave the session with sharpened mental math skills and the confidence needed to tackle the upcoming school year.
Intro to Geometry:
This summer enrichment course provides an engaging head start on the foundational concepts of geometry while reinforcing the essential algebraic skills required for the transition. Participants will explore the properties of points, lines, and planes and master the application of coordinate geometry to solve for slope and midpoints. The curriculum focuses on bridging the gap between algebraic manipulation and spatial reasoning by using linear equations to solve for unknown angles and segments. Students will leave the session with the analytical mindset and vocabulary necessary to excel in a full-year geometry program.
Intro to Algebra 1:
This summer enrichment course provides an engaging introduction to the fundamental concepts of Algebra 1, designed to give students a head start on the upcoming school year. Participants will explore the transition from arithmetic to abstract thinking by mastering linear equations, inequalities, and the coordinate plane. The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications and hands-on problem-solving to build a strong conceptual understanding of variables and functions. By the end of the session, students will have developed the mathematical confidence and foundational skills necessary for success in a full-year algebra program.
Intro to Algebra 2
This summer enrichment course provides an accelerated head start on Algebra 2 while reinforcing the critical Algebra 1 foundations necessary for advanced success. Students will solidify their mastery of multi-step equations, factoring, and linear functions before diving into new topics like complex numbers and transformations, etc. The curriculum emphasizes the connection between algebraic manipulation and graphical analysis to build a deeper conceptual understanding. By bridging these two levels of study, participants will gain the technical fluency and confidence needed to excel in a rigorous full-year Algebra 2 program.
Intro to Pre-Calculus
This summer enrichment course provides a strategic head start on Precalculus by reinforcing the Algebra 2 foundations necessary for advanced success. Participants will master complex factoring and function transformations before being introduced to the unit circle and right-triangle trigonometry. By bridging the gap between algebraic manipulation and periodic functions, students will develop the analytical precision needed for a rigorous Precalculus or AP-track program.
Intro to Algebra 7 (RPS students only!)
This optional three-week summer enrichment program is designed to support students enrolled in the Double Accelerated Math pathway as they prepare for Honors Algebra in Grade 7. The course will introduce and reinforce essential prerequisite concepts, including advanced numerical reasoning, algebraic thinking, problem solving strategies, and mathematical communication skills that are critical for success in an accelerated honors environment.
Intro to Biology:
This enrichment course offers a relaxed introduction to the fundamental concepts of biology to help students prepare for the upcoming school year. To build a strong foundation without the pressure of grades or exams, topics may include DNA and heredity, cell structure, human biology, and ecology. The program focuses on engaging, low-pressure lessons designed to spark curiosity and increase confidence in the life sciences. It is an ideal way for students to familiarize themselves with core material before the formal academic term begins.
Intro to Chemistry:
This enrichment course offers a relaxed introduction to the fundamental principles of chemistry to help students prepare for the upcoming school year. To build a strong foundation without the pressure of grades or exams, topics may include atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, and basic reactions.. It is an ideal way for students to familiarize themselves with core material before the formal academic term begins.
Intro to AP Physics I:
This summer, bridge the gap between Honors and AP with Intro to AP Physics 1, an intensive enrichment program designed to prepare students for the increased rigor of college-level science. The course prioritizes the transition from rote memorization to inquiry-based learning, training students to think like physicists through experimental design and evidence-based reasoning. By reinforcing critical mathematical foundations—including advanced algebraic manipulation and trigonometric application—this program ensures students enter the fall semester with the technical fluency and analytical confidence needed to thrive in a high-stakes, application-heavy environment. *This is a 3 week course!*
College Essay Writing:
This summer enrichment course guides rising juniors and seniors through the delicate process of crafting a standout personal statement and compelling supplemental essays. Students will engage in high-impact brainstorming exercises to uncover their unique "essence objects" and core values, transforming personal anecdotes into a cohesive, authentic narrative. By the end of the session, participants will have a polished draft and a strategic game plan to tackle the specific prompts of their top-choice colleges.
College Test Prep-Math:
This summer enrichment course provides a comprehensive review of the essential mathematical concepts tested on the SAT and ACT, ranging from core algebra to advanced trigonometry. Students will master high-leverage strategies, such as effective time management and "calculator-smart" techniques, to navigate both test formats with confidence. By analyzing the specific nuances and question styles of each exam, participants will identify their individual growth areas and sharpen their problem-solving speed.
College Test Prep-Verbal:
This summer enrichment course sharpens the critical reading and linguistic skills necessary to excel on the SAT and ACT verbal sections. Students will dive deep into evidence-based reading strategies, mastery of contextual vocabulary, and the formal grammar rules essential for the writing and English components. By deconstructing complex passages and identifying common "trap" answers, participants will learn to navigate the subtle differences between both exam formats with precision. The program focuses on boosting both speed and comprehension, ensuring students approach every verbal challenge with a strategic, analytical mindset.
