If you've never heard Jennifer Nielsen speak before...SRMS was honored once again to host one of our fave authors, Jennifer Nielsen on April 3, 2025. She spoke in front of a packed house about her journey to becoming a New York Times bestselling author. She also mesmerized our staff and students with the story of the making of her latest book, One Wrong Step.
Charles Waters visited SRMS on April 11 as part of our No Place For Hate Day.
Traci Sorrell offered a "shout out" to SRMS students participating in our "One Book Two Schools" group this year!
SRMS had a very special No Place for Hate program on April 6, 2023.
No Place for Hate is the Anti-Defamation League’s program dedicated to reducing bias and bullying in schools across the country. Scotts Ridge is the third school in our district to be making the pledge and working toward earning designation as a No Place for Hate school.
As part of the assembly, we were so fortunate to have award winning author, Torrey Maldonado, speak to us!
In addition to “What Lane?” he’s published “Tight”, “Secret Saturdays” and his latest book called “Hands”. All of his books are available in the LLC.
Our 3rd Community Read Aloud of What Lane? by Torrey Maldonado took place in the spring of 2021 and culminated with his virtual visit!
Some of our students and staff attended via Google Meet or watched live in the LLC.
What a great way to celebrate Read Across America Day! We learned about the author, his inspiration for writing, and about a forthcoming sequel to What Lane?! Our students asked to visit Torrey's classroom in Brooklyn to meet and talk further with his students. This was the impetus for our collaboration with Rogers Park MS in our One Book, Two Schools initiative (see Reading/Books Build Connections tab.)
