Polo Road Dual Language Immersion Program Video
Our program begins in Kindergarten at Polo Road Elementary School. Learners remain in the program through fifth grade. Upon completion of elementary school, our immersion learners transition to E. L. Wright Middle School. At the end of students’ eighth (8th) grade year, students take the Avant STAMP 4S assessment, an external, accredited online proficiency test (www.avantassessment.com). The student’s composite score from the STAMP 4S assessment is used to determine the amount of credit awarded to students. Students will be eligible to receive up to three (3) units of high school credit. Students may then enroll in the next appropriate level of Spanish at their high school.
Throughout elementary school, the students spend 50% of their core instructional time in each language.
Core content instruction in the classroom is in and through both languages.
South Carolina College and Career Readiness Grade-Level Standards are taught.
The Spanish language teacher is responsible for teaching math, science, and Spanish Language Arts.
The English language teacher is responsible for teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies.
Both teachers reinforce the other’s content through collaborative planning.
At all grade levels electives such as art, music, and PE are in English.
