Creative Writing


This course will focus on expressive writing in various forms. Students will

research and analyze several genres of writing, including poetry, prose, script

writing, and creative nonfiction. Literary and writing elements will be thoroughly

explored through the lens of the genre the individual writers choose within the

course. Students may choose to write in one, some, or all genres. Students will

also respond to literature, art, and music in constructing their creative work.


Originality and purposeful structure will be emphasized. Strategies to avoid

writer’s block and new ways to uncover ideas for writing through the creative

process will be studied. Peer reviews, workshops, and sharing ideas will be

essential elements to this course.

Ethnic and Social Justice

This course examines how issues of race, class, gender and sexuality are constructed and how they shape life globally, within the United States and in our local community. Employing historical, intersectional, thematic and interdisciplinary approaches, this course introduces key analytical concepts to understand and deconstruct the development of power and inequality in the United States. Students will examine vital civil rights and social justice movements and the various strategies that were implemented to navigate social reform. Furthermore, students will develop a social consciousness approach to 21st century critical reading, writing, listening and speaking by drawing from their diverse histories and experiences needed for academic success along with personal and community transformation. This course will culminate with a student-driven community action project.

Women's Studies

This course will expose students to relevant social issues and aims to sharpen students' critical awareness of how gender operates in institutions, culture, and their own lives. The course will cover topics ranging from, but not limited to, politics, activism, reproductive rights, sexual harassment, military, media and body image, workforce, education, and athletics.

Yearbook

The yearbook course utilizes 21st century technology skills and is designed to provide students with the journalism skills and the ability to apply those skills to the actual production of the yearbook.

AP Human Geography


AP Human Geography is a college- level course in human geography or cultural geography. Content is presented thematically and is organized around the disciplines main sub-fields: economics, cultural geography, political geography and urban geography. This course prepares students for the AP Human Geography Exam. This is a social studies course.

AP Computer Science Principles


AP Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving. Together, these aspects of the course make up a rigorous and rich curriculum that aims to broaden participation in computer science.

AP Computer Science A


AP Computer Science A course is an introductory computer science course. A large part of the course also emphasizes the design issues that make programs understandable, adaptable, and when appropriate, reusable. At the same time, the development of useful computer programs and classes is used as a context for introducing other important concepts in computer science, including the development and analysis of algorithms, the development and use of fundamental data structures, and the study of standard algorithms and typical applications. In addition an understanding of the basic hardware and software components of computer systems and the responsible use of these systems are integral parts of the course.

AP Psychology


AP Psychology is a one-year introductory course, designed to provide students with a learning experience equivalent to that of a college level Psychology course. Major goals of the course are to expand students' knowledge of Psychology, allow students to apply course concepts to themselves and the surrounding world and to and to prepare students for the AP Psychology exam.
