We strive to make the DCMS Media Center the heart of the school! Our school library is awesome, essential, and more than books! It is a center for creativity, literacy, and technology. It is a place for both students and staff to collaborate, learn, and thrive. Media Center activities promote critical thinking, lifelong learning, and student success. Students and staff love to visit to check out materials and participate in a wide assortment of opportunities. We are an out-of-the-box library with air hockey, Pop-a-Shot basketball, and an old-school arcade. It is often bustling with large quantities of students engaged in a variety of activities at once, but there are also chill times to curl up with a good book. Our goal is to welcome everyone through the door and do our best to meet their individual needs.

Mrs. McMichael has been the media specialist at Dutchman Creek since 2017. Prior to that, she worked with Children's Services at the York County Library. She received her Master's degree in Library & Information Science from the University of South Carolina. Her passion is advocating on behalf of students and staff to achieve equitable resources and opportunities. She is a leader and educator who champions literacy, develops a welcoming and inclusive environment, and hosts programming for fun and educational purposes. Mrs. McMichael is responsible for managing the library staff, budget, and virtual and physical school library resources. She likes presenting professional development for other teachers and librarians. When she is not busy in the Media Center, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and practicing yoga.
Ms. Blankenship has been at Dutchman Creek full-time since 2022. She is an amazing addition to the Media Center team and is incredibly efficient with many behind-the-scenes tasks, including processing, shelving, and reorganizing books. She is the main person at the circulation desk to check books in and out, answer questions, and support printing requests. Ms. Blankenship provides additional supervision and support during mornings, lunches, and classroom visits. Her position enables the Media Center to remain open while Mrs. McMichael attends required meetings. She also helps set up for events, creates displays, and builds relationships. Some of her hobbies include reading adult fiction, cooking up yummy treats, and completing jigsaw puzzles.
