We strive to make the DCMS Media Center the heart of the school! Our school library is awesome, essential, and more than books! It is a center for creativity, literacy, and technology. It is a place for both students and staff to collaborate, learn, and thrive. Media Center activities promote critical thinking, lifelong learning, and student success. Students and staff love to visit to check out materials and participate in a wide assortment of opportunities. We are an out-of-the-box library with air hockey, Pop-a-Shot basketball, and an old-school arcade. It is often bustling with large quantities of students engaged in a variety of activities at once, but there are also chill times to curl up with a good book. Our goal is to welcome everyone through the door and do our best to meet their individual needs.

Ms. Rainey serves as the Instructional Coach and does not work in the Media Center, but is a frequent collaborator. We are a combined force to be reckoned with as we endeavor to bring additional opportunities to our students and staff to support their success!

Mrs. McMichael has been the media specialist at Dutchman Creek since 2017. Prior to that, she worked with Children's Services at the York County Library. She received her Master's degree in Library & Information Science from the University of South Carolina. Her passion is advocating on behalf of students and staff to achieve equitable resources and opportunities. She is a leader and educator who champions literacy, develops a welcoming and inclusive environment, and hosts programming for fun and educational purposes. Mrs. McMichael is responsible for managing the library staff, budget, and virtual and physical school library resources. She likes presenting professional development for other teachers and librarians. When she is not busy in the Media Center, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and practicing yoga.

Ms. Blankenship is at the Media Center full-time and is incredibly efficient with many behind-the-scenes tasks, including processing, shelving, and reorganizing books. She is the main person at the circulation desk to check books in and out, answer questions, and support printing requests. Some of her hobbies include reading adult fiction, cooking up yummy treats, and completing jigsaw puzzles.
Being a school librarian involves a lot of roles and responsibilities. Having assistants has been game-changing for Mrs. McMichael and she does not know how she ever survived without them! Both of these ladies provide additional supervision and support during mornings, lunches, and classroom visits. They enable the Media Center to remain open while Mrs. McMichael attends required meetings. They help set up for events, create displays, and build relationships. Mrs. Corbiere is a retired rockstar media specialist from the Clover School District with 26 years of experience! In addition to helping maintain a healthy library collection and catalog, she creates interactive resources to benefit students and loves to give reading recommendations. Outside of her part-time work hours, she likes to read widely, visit her grandchildren, and fully enjoy retirement!
