This course focuses on the basic geometric figures with emphasis on discovery and logical reasoning. Concepts are presented visually, analytically, inductively, and deductively. A major objective is to develop the student's ability to think creatively and critically through investigative exploration and discovery. The student will follow algebraic proofs and formulate formal geometric proofs built on deductive reasoning and logic skills. The student will discover the logical connections between theorems to develop an appreciation and understanding of the proof process. Topics include geometric relationships, congruence, similarity, and other topics of geometry explored in two and three dimensions via investigation and proof. They will also develop problem-solving skills by using length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-world problems. A scientific or graphing calculator is required.
