Writing Through Film is a half-year senior elective course that will allow students to study and explore a culturally significant way of storytelling. In this writing intensive course, students will view, critique, and study film as they would a piece of literature in another English course. This study is particularly relevant due to the consistent increase in the use of technology today and the fact that students are often more exposed to visual stimuli. Writing Through Film is a course that allows students to critically study this common medium, offering the potential to become well-developed thinkers when viewing visual media. Analytical skills gained in this class can be applied to the written word in the form of essay assignments and projects, further offering students a chance to develop the skills needed to be successful in the postsecondary world. Gaining a deeper understanding of film and other visual media will allow students to have a stronger understanding of the fundamental question of why people tell stories.
