Students will read, respond to, discuss and write about a variety of high-interest fiction and nonfiction organized into thematic units and connected to relevant contemporary issues. Students will receive instruction in literary analysis of several genres. Students will use the writing process to create effective paragraphs as well as several multi-paragraph compositions, including informative and argumentative essays, and the research paper. In addition to formal essays, students will apply their skills in writing a variety of practical forms including letters of complaint, opinion and application.
