This fast-paced course, which can count as an Art/Tech graduation requirement, is an in-depth study of the mechanics, function, and purpose of print and broadcast news, as students work in groups to produce the school news magazine and weekly email newsletter. Students will study and debate the legal and ethical freedoms and restrictions on the press and will learn how to write a variety of news, opinion, sports, and arts and entertainment pieces for print. Through the production of the RHAMbler News broadcast, RHAMbler news magazine, and the weekly Little RHAMBler newsletter, students will be introduced to graphic design, photojournalism, and videography and will develop the technical and artistic skills necessary to create professional-quality newspaper designs and broadcast news packages with industry-standard software. Students who have taken at least two semesters of the class are eligible to take the Advanced class as a junior or senior, where they will take on leadership roles with the publications.
