The RHAM business program continues to grow, and in recent years, offers several half-year courses for students to consider as elective options. Students are encouraged to be actively involved in the three facets of the program including the classroom, DECA student association, and the school store.
In Sports & Entertainment Marketing, students explore marketing and operational topics in relation to sports and entertainment industries and events. In addition to career exploration, this course introduced topics relating to ingress/egress, promotion, and branding, sponsorship, licensing, ticket sales, and risk management, to name a few.
In Financial Accounting, students explore the various aspects of the accounting cycle for both a service and merchandising business for both a partnership and corporation. Other areas of study include inventory controls, notes, special journals, cash controls as well as an exploration into accounting career trends that exist today. All resources and working papers for this class are fully automated using web-based tools to create a more authentic accounting experience. Financial Accounting is offered as a college credit course through the MCC Career Pathways Program.
Management Principles introduces students to the world of business including the areas of international business, business management, business communication, marketing, leadership, financial planning, and stock investments. Students will also demonstrate financial performance plus a deeper understanding of investment strategies as team participants in a stock market simulation program.
Marketing Principles introduces students to the various marketing functions including pricing strategies, financing, distribution, promotion, product features, selling, and marketing information management. Business skills are further developed using a Virtual Business Retailing simulation in addition to varied online marketing-focused research tools (LAPS). Marketing Principles is now offered as a college credit course through the Capital Career College Career Pathways Program.
Entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity for students to work collaboratively, through the structure of the Junior Achievement Company Program, in building, operating, managing, and formally liquidating a REAL business during a semester-long timeline. This course is further supplemented with the Virtual Business Entrepreneurship simulation units.
DECA Students may choose to become part of the rich history of the RHAM business club and participate in a variety of related school-sponsored activities, field trips, and state/national DECA competitions.
School Store Students are encouraged to work 2-shifts per week in our school-based enterprise. As business associates, student employees will develop skills in customer service, cash handling, merchandising, and inventory control. Connections between the classroom and the school store will be a regular part of the learning environment.
