Zones of Regulation

Students and staff at Rocky Branch use the common language of

Zones of Regulation to help students identify their emotions,

determine what Zone that puts their body in,

and utilize self-regulation strategies.

All emotions fit within the four different Zones depending on the level of energy in your body.

Once the student identifies their Zone, they can use self-regulation strategies to help their body return to the  Green Zone, where they can do their best learning.

Here are a few examples of strategies that students might select, keeping in mind that different strategies work for different people:

At first, many children need help identifying their emotions and what Zone their body is in.  Eventually, students begin to identify the signs in their own bodies and can employ their own self-regulation strategies, without the help of an adult as their co-regulator.
