Hey DTA Band members! Welcome to virtual band class. Just like everyone else, I really wish we could be back in our band room making music together. Unfortunately, it's not safe for us to do that yet, but hopefully we can be back together soon! Scroll down to check out your assignments for this week, and click "GOOGLE MEET LINK" on Friday during your assigned Enrichment time.

Hey DTA Band! This week, you have a simple task- I want you to choose your favorite DTA Band song from the past, record a video of yourself playing your part, and upload it to the photo gallery on the BAND App! This will show us who has been practicing and who still has their chops- consider it a challenge! Looking forward to seeing your videos!
Hey DTA Band! This week, we're going to step a little outside our usual style of music and check out a great recording made with mostly items found at home!
Hamilton is a musical theater show that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States. Hamilton had a wild life, starting off as an orphan, fighting in the Revolutionary War, and ending with a pistol dual in New York City in which he was shot and killed. But this musical about his life is special in another way- it stars almost entirely black, Hispanic, and Asian actors. The show's writer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, wanted to showcase the talents of actors of color and tell the story with a cast that reflects modern America.
WATCH THIS VIDEO of Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and the original cast of Hamilton performing a song called "Helpless." They use a few normal instruments, but most of the instruments they use are everyday items they found in their homes! Write down as many normal instruments and household "instruments" as you can, then fill out THIS SURVEY to tell me what you saw and heard. As a bonus, you can record yourself playing with one of the household "instruments" from this video and send it to me or post it on the BAND app!
Hey DTA Band! Since most of you didn't complete the assignment from last week, your job this week is to finish that. Just follow the directions below to access the DTA Band website, then send me an e-mail and let me know what you want to participate in (don't forget Step 5!!). Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey DTA Band! This week, we're going to be learning about the different kinds of bands we have at DTA. We have 3 kinds of bands at DTA- the Marching Tigers, the Concert Band, and the "Young Heroes" Brass Band. Your first assignment for this week is to learn more about each of these kinds of bands.
Click over to the DTA Band website
Watch the first video (DTA Marching Band perform DTA Hype at the 5th annual Spring Concert).
Watch the second video (DTA Concert Band members perform Captain America March at the 5th annual Spring Concert).
Watch the third video (The DTA "Young Heroes" Brass Band performs Let Your Mind Be Free with members of Preservation Hall and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra).
***Send me an e-mail, and tell me which bands you want to participate in and why. You can be in all three of these groups, or just one or two- it's up to you! My e-mail address is abower@renewschools.org. I expect to receive an e-mail from you by Tuesday night.
When you're done with this, please make sure to complete the SURVEY that was assigned last week! That information will help me make virtual band interesting and enjoyable for you. See y'all on Friday!
