Group A: Relay students who pass Praxis II (and FOR when necessary) prior to joining Relay can apply for the REC at the start of their Relay program (Summer I Term). EdTPA will be completed in program year two.
Group B: Relay students who pass Praxis II (and FOR when necessary) during the first year of the Relay program will apply for the REC during year two (Summer II Term). EdTPA will be completed in program year two.
Group C: Relay students who do NOT pass the Praxis II (and FOR when necessary) in the first 2 years complete their edTPA in program-year-two as it is a program completion requirement. They’ll apply for the REC after passing pass Praxis II (and FOR when necessary).
Congratulations on successfully completing your certification exams and securing a teaching position! Resident Educator Certificate Applications are submitted by Relay Connecticut to the Connecticut Teacher Certification Office on the 1st, 15th and 25th of every month. Please plan accordingly to ensure that your paperwork is received by Relay Connecticut's Director of Operations at least one week before certification paperwork is dropped off to the State Certification Office.
Action Steps
Request official hard copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended. If you completed credits through exams or courses, please request official copies of those transcripts or test scores.
2. Print out the Resident Educator Certificate application HERE and fill out Parts I, II and III of the application with Blue Ink.
3. If working at a Connecticut Public School, drop off the application to your HR department to fill out part IV of the form. If working at a standalone charter, drop off the application to your building principal to fill out part IV of the form. If working at Achievement First, drop off the application to your Director of School Operations to fill out part IV of the form.
5. Email a PDF of your score reports for Praxis II and Foundations of Reading(Elementary only) and edTPA score report to Relay Connecticut's Director of Operations at support@relay.edu.
6. Schedule a time with the Director of Operations through support@relay.edu to drop off your completed materials.

Recommendations and Steps: Relay residents who were affected by COVID-19 and have not been able to take, retake and or passed all exams by September 1st but will hold a teaching position on SY 2020-2021 can follow the steps below.
Contact your district’s HR to ensure they complete Parts IV, V, as well as Part A of the “EVIDENCE OF ENROLLMENT IN AN APPROVED EDUCATOR PREPARATION PROGRAM” (PAGE 5) of the Ed 177 DURATIONAL SHORTAGE AREA PERMIT (DSAP) IN BLUE INK.
Complete Parts I, II, and III of the ED 177 DURATIONAL SHORTAGE AREA PERMIT (DSAP) IN BLUE INK.
Contact director Silva-Muhammad to have page 6 of the Ed177 DSAP signed and to receive your Relay transcripts.
Turn the complete application and transcripts to your district’s HR and ensure they submit all paperwork to the state electronically at teacher.cert@ct.gov.
Take and pass all your exams (Praxis II and Foundations of Reading if necessary) before the expiration of the DSAP.
Contact Contact director Silva-Muhammad once you pass all exams to receive support in applying for the ED 172 Temporary 90-Day Certificate before the expiration of the DSAP.
