Bats
During the months of October and November students will be studying bats discussing problems bats are encountering in the wild and things we can do to help them. In fourth grade, students are focusing on the bat's habitat and why they are losing their homes which, in turn, is not helping the bat population that has decreased by 90%. Ms. Dana Wiseman from Pike Soil and Water Conservation visited our classroom to share all of her knowledge with students. Students will soon design and build cardboard bat houses based on their research into the animals' essential living criteria.

Above : Students are creating their first bridge prototype from the design they sketched. We started this project with the book Iggy Peck, Architect written by Andrea Beatty. Iggy and his classmates run into trouble when a footbridge collapses after they crossed it to get to an island. To help Iggy, the students have designed a bridge that needs to span 12". They will test the strength of the bridges the next session and discuss ways to improve their designs.
