Parent signed consent for student to receive short-term counseling through Elementary Counselors, which is a function of the general education setting.
Why can’t we be written into IEPs?
The IEP becomes a legal document and whatever is written in must be complied with until the next IEP is held, in which that would then be removed if the student was no longer needing the services. This is kind of irrelevant, because it shouldn’t be on the IEP. These are not specialized services that students have to qualify for. ERMHS Counseling (DIS/special education) requires an assessment to determine educational need. We can be written into the comments section that they have been receiving services as a function of general education, but they are not services attached to the IEP. Writing elementary counseling services into the IEP puts the school/district at risk of being out of compliance as our positions are LCAP funded and not guaranteed, and our caseload of Foster/Homeless students come first.
