What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment gives students the opportunity to earn college credit and experience the workload of a college class while in high school. Credits earned may be considered for transfer to any college or university.

Who is eligible to take Dual Enrollment courses?

Students who have completed their junior year or are currently in their senior year of high school are eligible for dual enrollment defined by each program

How many credits can you take?

Earned credits vary among the different colleges.

Students may take one or two courses per semester in addition or in place of high school coursework.

Reading High Dual Enrollment Application Process

All students enrolled in one of Reading High School’s Dual Enrollment classes and wish to earn college credit need to complete a Dual Enrollment Online Application and Course Registration.

Apply Online - The fall DE application will open on 8/19 and close at midnight 10/1. If your application is not submitted by the due date, you will not be able to register late. Any questions, please see your school counselor.
Students will need to sign up as a first time user if you are new to this application. You are only a returning student if you created an account with this application portal previously. If you created an account previously and forget your password, click forget password.
Use a personal email to set up an account, if possible (so you receive future communication)
After submitting your application, remember to check back to your application portal for counselor and parent recommendation status. Remind parents to complete the electronic sign off (via email).

The registration deadline for fall semester courses and full year courses is 10/01/2024, and Spring semester classes are 03/01/2025.
The withdrawal Deadline for fall semester courses and full year courses is 10/15/2024, and Spring semester classes are 03/15/2025.

Reading High School (RHS) Dual Enrollment Classes
Reading High School offers some college level approved courses. Students will receive Reading High (RHS) School elective credits based on length of course, 0.50 credit for semester long courses and 1.0 credit for a year long course. Students will also earn 3.0 credits for each course they take from Reading Area Community College (RACC). Students will receive a passing grade at RHS if they earn a 60% or higher in the class. Students who earn a “C” or higher may transfer credits from RACC to another college or university.
Eligible Students: Students enrolled in Art Major I, Aspiring Educators III, Computer Programming I & II, Microsoft Office, and Public Speaking courses at RHSNumber of College Credits: 3.0 credits per course.Number of RHS Credits: Semester course- .50 RHS Credits, Year long course- 1.0 RHS CreditsLocation: Reading High School Times: During the regular RHS school day.Cost: No cost to the student. The course cost is $99.00 per credit; RHS covers all costs and fees. No transportation needed.RHS Course: Art Major I, Aspiring Educators III, Public Speaking, Public Speaking, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office, Computer Programming I, Computer Programming II.

Enrollment and Withdrawal ProcessApplication to Enroll in Dual Enrollment Course

Any student wishing to enroll in a dual enrollment course with one of the local college partnership program, will:
First, speak with your school counselor.
Attend the information and advising sessions for dual enrollment opportunities.
Select dual enrollment course options during course scheduling.
Submit the RHS Student Parent Agreement
Complete an Application for a specific dual enrollment program.
Schedule placement test or interview if program requires.
Submit all necessary documentation.

Process for Dropping a Dual Enrollment Course

If a student wishes to drop or withdraw from a course, s/he must:
notify the high school counselor immediately and submit the RHS withdrawal form signed by the student and the parent.
The counselor will forward the request form to the students Assistant Principal for approval.
The counselor will forward the request form with all signatures to the College Counselor at Reading High School.
The College Counselor will notify the appropriate contact for the college the student is attending. The form must be submitted to the college so they can report changes to enrollment numbers for auditing purposes.
Once approved, the college counselor will inform the counselor to make any necessary schedule changes.

Please Note: Counselors may not remove students from any of the Reading high school dual enrollment classes without following the ame approval process.
