Reading High School Internship Program
Counselors
Counselors need to review student records to ensure eligibility.
Counselors will notify case managers and get signed approval for students having an IEP.
Under creditied students need a graduation plan signed by parents in order to participate in an internship.
Intern Requirements
Assignments: Student Completes weekly reflection log and submits to Teacher of Record every Monday: 1 paragraph answering one of the prompts and records date and hours worked.
Attendance: Shows up to work at assigned times and on time. Follow attendance and call-out policies of assigned placement. Follow RHS attendance procedures when absent from the internship.
Concerns:
Reports any internship concerns to the teacher of record and Career Pathways counselor.
Reports any on the job concerns to the internship supervisor and documents in Weekly Report.
Guidelines: Follow all policies and procedures of the assigned placement.
Teacher of Record:
Will collect Weekly Report logs from students
Monitor student progress as it relates to the internship.
Assign pass/fail grades and award appropriate credit hours.
Report any questions or concerns to Career Pathways counselor and Core Team.
Transcript/Grading
Internship credit hours will be recorded by career pathway each semester.
Students will earn a pass/fail grade quarterly for their participation in an internship.
Mentors/Business Application: Businesses or individuals interested in becoming a mentor for Reading High School interns will complete an application. Upon receipt of the application, the Reading High School Career Educator will contact the business representative to review the process and assign an eligible student.
Responsibilities:
The organization agrees that the supervising employer shall obtain and maintain valid Pa child abuse and criminal clearances.
The organization must notify the Reading School District If assigned supervisor is no longer with the organization.
The organization is responsible for assigning a new supervisor and ensuring they have the appropriate clearances.
Mentors are responsible for orienting students to their role in the organization.
Mentors will serve as a guide during their internship training.
Mentors will monitor the intern’s attendance and complete and submit a brief Quarterly Evaluation to the assigned teacher of record.
Opportunities:
Summer opportunities will be available. These opportunities will be pre-approved and introduced to students during the spring of 11th grade.
Students will attend the RHS Annual Career Fair to find opportunties.
