AP Biology

To be successful in this course, students should have met proficiency in Chemistry or AP Chemistry. AP Biology will cover the biological processes of the living world in great detail. Its content will emphasize the four big ideas of biology: (1) the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life, (2) biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis, (3) living system store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes, and (4) biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties. Students electing this course should be aware of additional out of class reading and study, as would be found with a typical biology college course. This course prepares students to take the College Board’s AP Biology exam in May. This is a laboratory course. Students will have an extra lab period(s) each week.
