Benjamin Franklin High School was built in 1928 on 27 acre parcel of land at the corner of Norton Street and Hudson Avenue.  The school has a rich history of preparing Rochester’s business, civic, athletic, and community leaders to serve and represent Rochester.

Originally built to ease the overcrowded conditions at East High School, Franklin High School would open its doors in 1928 to 4,000 students.  It is the largest building in the Rochester City School District at approximately 500,000 square feet.  At the time of its construct Benjamin Franklin High School was the largest school east of the Mississippi River.

Franklin High School is named after one of the founding fathers of the United States.  Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17th, 1706 in Boston to English parents.  Eventually, Franklin moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
