· PhET Interactive Simulations –PhET is a physics and chemistry simulation program provided by the University of Colorado. These simulations are free to use, and are often accompanied by teacher-derived ancillary documents. Recently, PhET has been converting the simulations to HTML5, which allows for easier use with Chromebooks or any web-based application.
· Chemistry Now! - The National Science Foundation (NSF) joined forces with NBC Learn and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), in 2011, to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry by creating "Chemistry Now"--a weekly, online video series that uncovered and explained the science of common, physical objects in our world and the changes they undergo every day. The series also looked at the lives and work of scientists on the frontiers of the 21st century.
· Mystery Science - Mystery Science features multimedia science units for K-5. Each lesson starts by posing a question commonly asked by kids, like "Do plants eat dirt?" or "Why are so many toys made out of plastic?" A series of short videos and prompts then guides a class discussion, followed by an experiment that can be done as a class. Lessons cover a wide range of topics, including light and sound, biodiversity, engineering, and the water cycle. Mystery Science encourages teacher collaboration with the capability to pin, tweet, or share units using various social media platforms. Register ASAP for free access.
· VIMS SEA Lesson Plans – The VIMS SEA Lesson Plans are classroom-tested science lesson plans created for VA Science Educators Alliance (SEA) by science graduate students, covering 6-12th grade. To view or download the full lesson plan, click on the lesson plan's title.
