Google Camp 2022


Presented by the Riverside County Office of Education in partnership with the Menifee Union School District, we are delighted to have provided this learning and sharing opportunity for K-12 teachers and administrators in Riverside County and beyond.


The summer program focuses on teaching and learning utilizing Google Apps for Education, Chromebooks, Google Classroom, and a variety of other educational solutions. It is designed to walk new online educators through the fundamentals of remote learning, introducing them into new strategies, tools, and troubleshooting abilities they'll need to teach with more confidence.

Amplifying Student Learning Through Video

This session will focus on incorporating student-created video into instruction to increase engagement, promote high-order thinking, and support student reflection.

Engaging students in writing through power writing

Struggling to get your students to just write?  Try the Power Writing routine! Through the use of a simple 30 minute routine, teachers engage students to just write by allowing them to respond to a variety of writing stimulus such as videos, pictures, quotes, anchor texts, and more.  Basic materials is all you need: your traditional composition journals or if you want to take it digital, Google slides.

Sous chef is the math version of the Iron chef EduProtocol where students work in groups of four to investigate and illustrate a math topic using a four slide jigsaw model.  Experience Sous Chef as a student and learn how to design using Desmos and Geogebra secret sauce.

Through the use of digital storytelling, English learners and Long Term English Learners can engage the four domains of language acquisition in the creation of one project. Students will write a narrative based on a type of writing prompt from the ELPAC test and add to video, images, music, and narration. Students will engage in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

During this hands-on workshop, we will link 2D design / 3D modeling to collaborative quilting bees and the use of symbols and codes in hanging quilts that guided enslaved African people and their descendants to freedom. Be prepared to personalize your coded quilt with symbols that represent your story.

#Girls and tech

What is girls’ relationship with learning technologies? How do girls view and use technology differently from boys? How can you use common ed-tech platforms in innovative ways to advance girls?   Research continually points to the gender gap in STEM fields and the links between anxiety in girls and social media. But, technology proficiency is essential in today’s society. If you want to discover new ways you can utilize technology in your classroom to benefit girls, you will not want to miss this session! We will discuss what current research reveals about girls and technology use and how to leverage some common ed-tech tools such as Google Forms, Padlet, Google Sites, Mentimeter, Polls Everywhere, Mote, Spotify, and Parlay in ways that empower girls in the classroom. This workshop is applicable to all subjects and grade levels but will provide a bit more specialized focus for grades 6-12. This session is applicable to all skill levels.

In this session, participants will learn how to use Scratch 3 to teach students about AI and machine learning and brainstorm ways to integrate AI lessons into the curriculum — no matter what they teach. No experience necessary!

Using Scratch 3.0 and an extension created by https://machinelearningforkids.co.uk/ participants will learn how to integrate the principles of machine learning into the Scratch platform and begin teaching students the basics of machine learning. This activity will teach the computer to recognize written commands to turn on and off a light and turn on and off a fan. However, this activity could be integrated into more purposeful classroom instruction.
