About today
Student reflection
So, here’s the scoop on our day. We started our morning with a stroll to grab some breakfast. The food was amazing - fried rice, sweetcorn, mantou, and even watermelon! After that, we decided to challenge ourselves with some fun activities. For lunch, well, let’s just say my memory’s a bit fuzzy. But I did manage to enjoy some spicy chicken and veggies.
After lunch, we had a cool activity with a teacher about ethnic minorities pictographs. Then, we got creative and built a tea leaf strainer out of copper. Dinner was a bit of a mishap. We made some dumplings, and I accidentally made one without filling. It tasted like noodles, haha! But hey, at least we had a good laugh.
The highlight of the day was definitely chatting with the coffee shop owner in the morning. It was so interesting to see things from a different perspective. But, there was also one thing that I didn’t quite enjoy - using the squat toilet. It’s a bit of a challenge for me, and I get a bit lightheaded.
On a brighter note, I found a cool cowboy hat for 13RMB while Poko and Elliot got one for 20. That was a fun little souvenir.
I’ll talk about CAS in terms of collaboration. Being on this trip has really helped me collaborate better. For instance, working with the group in the morning group to make dumplings and complete challenges was super exciting. I wouldn’t normally talk to them in school, and collaboration in school wouldn’t be this engaging and bonding.
Overall, it was a great day filled with challenges, learning, and some good laughs. I’m excited to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us. Can’t wait to hit the trails and explore some new places!

Student reflection 2
On the morning of Day 1, we woke up at our guestroom at 8:00 AM and headed down for breakfast. We enjoyed a delicious Chinese-style meal at a family-run eatery, where they kindly served us all three meals of the day. The breakfast included fried mantou and other tasty dishes.
After breakfast, we moved on to our next activity: the Baisha Chill Challenge. This involved completing various missions, such as taking photos and interacting with local villagers. This was definitely my highlight of the morning!
Two key CAS outcome from this experience was collaboration, as we had to work together to complete the missions and also undertake challenges.
Tomorrow, I’m really looking forward to exploring the new environment in Shaxi Village!
