The String Major Program is an intensive curriculum designed for the serious-minded string student who desires to develop their skills in preparation for undergraduate music programs and local and national scholarship opportunities. Specialized workshops and master classes led by professional artists, along with national and local performances augment the string major’s curriculum. In addition, string students take advanced placement music theory and advanced music technology courses that develop their composing, recording and editing skills.
"My experience as a string major was both challenging and inspiring. Being in the VPA has taught me to be confident in my skill while also developing my technical skills. What I've enjoyed most about the VPA is the people who surround me." - MP '26
"From my personal experience, the VPA has taught me so much about music that I absolutely would not have cared to have learned otherwise, not just from my teachers, but from my classmates as well. Overall, the VPA gave me a platform to share my musical growth, as well as allowing me to create valuable school friendships that I really haven't felt before." - OH '27
"I really enjoy having a VPA program, it makes my life so much easier and fun. I learned so many lessons throughout the program like: working as a team, how to play the guitar and I meet so much new people." - MCP '29
"The strings program is a beautiful environment. It’s not only a dedicated time to practice, but a community centered around playing and enjoying music. I have learned so much about my instrument, and I highly recommend the program to any musician looking for a space to simply have fun." - RP '28
