RBKIA’s First Virtual Halloween!

This was the very first online Halloween that RBKIA has ever had. DP1 had planned a virtual Halloween and it was a huge challenge for us. We had no clue what to do. We couldn’t rely on presenting videos as there is always a lag no matter how great someone’s Wi-Fi is. And we had to ensure that all activities that we plan would be interesting for the students.

We had initially planned to have a pumpkin carving competition for grades 6-8, a best dressed competition with five categories and an inter-house murder mystery for grades 9-12. Whoever was not a part of these activities would be watching 2-3 episodes of Brooklyn Nine Nine’s Halloween Heist. And this plan was approved but then we were told that 1 hour would be too much time and we’d have to make the event shorter and more interactive and it was too late to send an email for pumpkin carving and so we had to change the entire plan just 3 days before the event. In the end, the event was for two days. And the activities were; a French Halloween Kahoot for Grades 6 and 7 (just for fun, not a competition), an Inter-house Murder Mystery for Grades 8-12 and a best dressed competition for Grades 6-12.

On Thursday, the 5th of November, we had the Murder Mystery and the Kahoot simultaneously. For each house, there were two students from Grade 8, one from Grade 9 and one from Grade 10. The winner of the Inter-house Murder Mystery is Ruby; they solved the entire murder mystery in 19 minutes and 45 seconds. Second place is Topaz; they solved the murder mystery in 33 minutes and 4 seconds. Third place is Sapphire; they weren’t able to figure out who the murderer was and finished in 33 minutes and 45 seconds. Fourth place is Emerald; they couldn’t figure out who the murderer was and finished in 41 minutes and 54 seconds.

On Friday, the 6th of November, we had to receive all the Best Dressed submissions by noon but there was a slight delay as the majority of the students taking part had received a wrong email id to submit to. So, we started off with a French Halloween ppt by Aadhya Shetty (Grade 8A) and Riva Mehta (Grade 7A). And had the results for the best dressed announced. The Halloween Queen is Shreesha Patel. The Halloween King is Vyom Birwatkar. The winner for Scariest Costume is Veer Doshi. The winner for Most Innovative (DIY) is Shlok Anand and the winners of Face Painting are: 1st place; Nandini Nigam, 2nd place; Shania Duggal, and 3rd place was a tie between Amogh Dake and Aryan Shaikh. Elections In The US Senate & House Of Representatives.

The US legislature, Congress, has two chambers. The lower chamber (House of representatives) has 435 voting seats each representing a district of roughly similar size. There are elections in each of these seats every two years. The upper chamber, the Senate has 100 members who sit for 6-year terms. One third of the seats come up for election every two years. Each state has two senators regardless of its population. The Senate has important functions, approving senior presidential appointments, for instance to the Supreme court.

This year 35 Senate seats are being contested. Republicans held a 53-47 Senate majority. Both the Republicans and the Democrats need 51 seats to win the Senate and both hold 48 each as of now. However, the Democrats have a net gain of +1 and the Republicans have a net loss of -1. If there is a tie, the Vice president of the United States has the ability to break the tie with his/her final vote.

As of the House of Representatives, Democrats were defending a majority in the 435-member house. Democrats currently hold 215 seats and Republicans hold 196 seats. First to 218 for majority, and it surely favors the democrats.

This is how the elections are in the Senate so far (red represents the Republicans and blue represents the Democrats):
