With the help of our generous donors in our community, students are able to receive a wide variety of scholarships for their pathway after high school.
Below are our local, regional, and state-wide scholarship offerings, their deadlines, and other important information.

Headwaters Scholarships: DUE 2/28/25
Jane Bowling-Wilson Leadership Award
Lykes/Darden Scholarship: Multiple awards given, ranging from $500 - $2,500
"Preference is given to those with greatest need, first-generation students, and those pursuing an education in journalism, photography, architecture, design, or the arts."
Gladys Reid Bowie/Grace Bradley Reid Memorial Scholarship: Amount Varies
"Exemplifies the qualities of hard work and care and compassion for others."
Rappahannock County Garden Club Scholarship: $2,500
Goes to a senior at RCHS with need, attending a two-year or four-year college.
Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection: Up to $2,500
Granted to one or more Rappahannock County students who are interested in pursuing a career or advanced study related to environmental protection, natural resource conservation, environmental technology, earth science, or the intersection of environment and culture through environmental studies.
Hackley Family Scholarship
Seniors with financial need going on to college. Preference to volunteer involvement, a strong work ethic, and an intent to major in business, veterinary science, nursing, environmental science, or agriculture.
Rappahannock Association for Arts & Community Scholarship: $2,000
Demonstrates interest in pursuing a career or advanced study in the arts, including fine arts, drama, music, film, writing & literature, dance & movement.
Headwaters RPM scholarship: Multiple awards given, ranging from $500 to $2,500
Senior enrolling in a two or four-year college or technical school. Preference is given to students with financial need who are the first in their family to attend college.
Jeff MacNelly Art Award: $5,000 (may go to one recipient or be broken into multiple awards)
Passion about art in some form – drawing, cartooning, dancing, photography, writing, woodworking, welding, etc. Students must plan to attend a 2-year, 4-year, trade school, or training/certification program.
Larry & Kathleen Grove Scholarship: $1,400
Senior with financial need enrolling in a four-year college. Preference is given to those pursuing a career in education.

Northern Piedmont Community Foundation Scholarships
The Poling Family Memorial Scholarship: Varies
The Poling Family Memorial is a new and diverse scholarship opportunity for our Rappahannock County students. Qualifying applicants must be residents of Rappahannock County, and candidates for graduation from high school in the current year, in solid academic standing and having participated in community service.
The RMD Music Scholarship: $12,000 for four years, renewable ($3,000 per year), or $6,000 for two years, provided student is still in a music degree program, provides annual transcripts to NPCF, and maintains a GPA of at least 2.7.
This scholarship is for a graduating senior from a Fauquier or Rappahannock County public school who intends to seek a degree in music at an accredited two or four-year institution. An eligible student should be well rounded and display initiative, motivation, and leadership.
The Joe Timpane Building Trades Scholarship Fund: Varies
Awarded to individuals of any age, who are residents of Rappahannock County. First priority given to those who demonstrate financial need. This fund will support those who are pursuing training of any kind as it relates to the BUILDING Trades.
The St. Lukes Foundation Scholarship Fund: Up to three scholarships of $1,000-2,000
The St. Luke's Foundation Scholarship is open to seniors who are residents of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, or Rappahannock counties, and are alumni of any private school in Culpeper County, although priority is given to St. Luke's alumni. The qualifying candidate should possess a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate good academic standing, have community service experience and possess an academic record that displays leadership and initiative.
Sallie Morgan Behavioral Health Scholarship: $1,000
Trade Certification and Technical Education Scholarship: $2,000, renewable for one year
The Mary Beth Williams Memorial Scholarship: Varies
The Cooley, Dearing, and Rinker Foundation Scholarship: Varies

Granville P Meade Scholarship: $2,000 per year for four years
DUE: 2/3/2025
The Granville P. Meade Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college. The Granville P. Meade fund provides scholarship awards to worthy and financially disadvantaged Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia's public or private colleges or universities. VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation: $1,000
The primary residence of the applicant’s parent or legal guardian must receive its power from one of the 15 electric cooperatives served by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives.
Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Scholarships: $1,000 or $2,500

"Each year Rappahannock Electric Cooperative offers the REC Community Scholarship program to students who are seeking to advance their career goals by attending a college or a career and technical school. To apply for each scholarship, the applicant's parent or guardian must be a consumer-owner of REC and the applicant must be planning to enroll in an accredited educational or training institution."

The George E. Allen Academic Scholarship: 15 awards for $2,000 ea.

UVA Community Credit Union Local Scholarship Program: 10 $5000 scholarship awards

"Must be a full-time resident attending public, private, or home-school within our field of membership
Must plan to attend a two or four year accredited U.S. college or university in the fall of 2024
Must be a High School Senior with a GPA of at least 2.50 (winners will be asked to provide a copy of their transcript)

VHSL Scholarships: Varies
VHSL Achievement Award – DUE 3/15/25
This scholarship awards 19 $2,000 scholarships recognizing one male scholar-athlete, one female scholar-athlete, and one scholar-academic activities participant in each VHSL classification. Plus, one student from any classification overcoming incredible odds to make significant contributions to athletic or academic activities. Colonel Charles E. Savedge Award – DUE 3/1/25
This scholarship awards $500 to one college-bound senior who has participated and excelled in school publications (magazine, newsmagazine, newspaper, and yearbook) and for at least two years has demonstrated outstanding personal qualities such as leadership, writing, proficiency, design aptitude, creativity, teamwork, and character. Vito E. Perriello Citizenship Award – DUE 3/15/25
This program awards two $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors wishing to further their education in medicine or an allied health field at an institution of higher learning, including universities, community colleges, and trade schools. Planting Paths to Harvest Success: James River Equipment Scholarship Program with VHSL- DUE 3/3/25
James River Equipment believes investing in our communities will sustain those communities for years to come. James River Equipment invites graduating high school seniors in VA to apply for one of 5 scholarship opportunities to be awarded in May 2025:
3- $3,000 Scholarships awarded to students pursuing a career in heavy equipment/diesel technology
2- $2,000 Scholarships awarded to students pursuing a career in agricultural/life sciences, agribusiness, leadership, sales, or marketing.
Scholarships will be awarded to the individual and can be used toward tuition, fees, books and travel/housing.
Internships within James River Equipment will also be available to scholarship recipients.

Virginia School Plant Management Association Scholarship

"Provides financial assistance to individuals attending an accredited technical school, college or university where the student/applicant’s learning is focused on building applications and studies in the area of building construction, building engineering and facility maintenance."
Rappahannock Animal Welfare League: $1,000
Any student interested in a field working with animals will be eligible for this scholarship. Ex.vet, vet tech or grooming

Salem Ruritan Scholarship: $1,500

Old Rag Master Naturalists Scholarship: (2) $1000
"The Old Rag Master Naturalist (ORMN) chapter is accepting applications for its annual ORMN Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support a high school senior or high school graduate who has taken a "gap" year and has applied to college for admission in 2024 to pursue a degree in Wildlife/Natural Resources Conservation/Environmental Studies. Applicants must be a resident of the ORMN service area (counties of Culpeper, Rappahannock, Madison, Greene, Orange, and Fauquier), and the scholarship will be awarded based on the applicant's leadership ability and past or present participation in activities related to environmental stewardship."
Preston Pulliam Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
Preston Pulliam was a native of Rappahannock County. He was not a writer by trade but always
had a passion for the written word. Late in his life, Mr. Pulliam had the honor of publishing a
book of his poetry that he composed throughout his life. This book is a compilation of poems
about the beauty of Rappahannock County. See Ms. Jenkins for a copy of the poems.
Windmore Foundation of the Arts: Varies
Scholarships are for high school seniors who plan to attend college to pursue a career in the visual or performing arts.
Applicants must be from one of these Counties: Culpeper Fauquier Madison Orange Rappahannock
2024 Capital One Virginia Military Dependent Scholarship: $2,000, $3,000, and $5,000
The Capital One Military Dependent Scholarship is designed to aid and honor talented Virginia high school seniors who are the dependents of full-time Military Servicemembers (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard), current members of the Military Reserves, Military Retirees (time served or medically retired), and Gold Star Families.
Thornhill Family Scholarship: $2,700
This scholarship is available to Rappahannock County High School seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service.
Doug Stoughton Memorial Scholarship: $1,000
The Doug Stoughton Memorial Scholarship is offered by Agriculture in the Classroom to recognize exemplary graduating high school seniors as well as current college students who have a passion for agriculture and education.
Charles J. Colgan Aviation and Aerospace Scholarship: $2,000
Awarded to student pursuing aviation related career
Virginia Restaurant, Travel, and Lodging Association Scholarship: Varies
Awarded to high school and vocational school graduates who plan to study in the hospitality industry at a Virginia two year or four year college/ university or post secondary school that specializes in culinary arts. This award is based upon the student’s desire to pursue a degree in this industry and a previously proven record of interest, such as part-time or summer employment in the industry. The student’s academic background is expected to be a C average or better.
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia: $4,000-$6,000
Va Council on Women Essay Contest
DUE: January 2025
The Atkins Family Scholarship: $2,000
Requirements: Those students’ continuing education-technical school, community college, or four year college. Preference will be given to students who will be pursuing an education in conservationism or related field. This scholarship awards $2,000.00. (Therefore, all seniors can apply to this scholarship but preference will be given to a student who is pursuing education in conservation) Paper applications can be found outside the guidance office door.
Project Big Heart, REC: $1,500
Living the Dream: (2) $1,000
Required Essay: How would you help a friend who seemed depressed & had perhaps started to experiment with alcohol or other substances & how would any of these behaviors lead to thoughts of suicide?

This scholarship is available to Culpeper or Rappahannock County High School seniors who have demonstrated true perseverance and determination when faced with unfair challenges and obstacles.
The Paul Kite Yancey, Katie Baron Yancey, and Mary Lou Yancey Phillips Phoenix Scholarship: $3,500
DUE: 3/31/25
This scholarship is available to a high school senior from Culpeper or Rappahannock County who demonstrates a financial need, in which attending college would cause significant financial hardship.
The Phoenix Scholarship (Salem Education Foundation): Value up to $10,000
DUE: 7/1/25
This scholarship is offered to college students who are permanent residents of Culpeper or Rappahannock Counties, have completed at least one year toward their degree, and in clear need of financial assistance to continue their course of study leading to the completion of their degree or professional certification. The program of study may be at any accredited institution. The Phoenix Scholarship application should be submitted directly to the SEF, submission information can be found on the application, no later than July 1, 2024.
Bill Kyle Memorial Scholarship (Salem Education Foundation): $2,000
