Sunday 22nd August 2021
Across in the main pits there was some serious team work going on. Three young archaeologists scraped away the soil around a large object. Finally, it was loosened and they were able to bring it to the surface.
It was brushed clean and although it looked like any old piece of stone, Roger ( lead archaeologist) was able to tell everyone gathered around that it was in fact a piece of carboniferous limestone probably from Barnack and most probably dating from the 12th century when the king declared that stone from Barnack was not just to be used for Peterborough but could be used for Ramsey Abbey. WOW! that was quite a discovery
