Dig Day 5

Last Day of the Dig and quite a few families joined the Warboys Archaeology Group today plus a cheeky Blackbird who worked from 11.30 until at least 4.30 collecting worms from the soil piles and inside the pits.

Before everyone turned up today there was the little task of cleaning up and photographing one of the pits where some interesting stones had been found. First of all, as much loose soil as possible is removed from around the stones and then the area is brushed. Finally, the stones are cleaned with water using a sponge.

Then they are ready for photographing.

Can you see the marker poles and ruler - what do you think they are used for?

What else can you see?

Meanwhile, over on the field every day this week, Alan has been metal detecting.

Can you see him out on the field?

Here he is at the end of the dig handing over his finds........once we have had a chance to look at the finds we will tell you what he has recovered from the grounds at Ramsey Rural Museum.

THANK YOU to everyone involved this week, the members of Warboys Archaeology Group and the 65 children and their parents, grandparents, siblings and dogs!

As soon as we have looked at, sorted and identified all the finds from the 2022 dig we will publish them here and display them for a short time at the museum.
