The "Main Office" by Danielle DiPalma
Type: Portfolio Defense
Pathway: Profile Project Seminar
While conducting my video project, I was exposed to the director-aspect of production, which was eye-opening. I was given the opportunity to direct a cast of 10 staff members and 4 crew members, which ultimately gave me the experience I needed to choose my major for college. I was able to grow from this process because it helped develop the skills necessary to succeed. I was able to work on my communication and collaboration skills, as well as my adaptability and creativity. This course has made me sure that I am passionate about the world of film and has helped me make my decision to be a Digital Media Studies major, concentrating in Film and Television.
Ramsey Composts by Carolyn Coletti
Type: Service Learning
Pathway: Profile Project Seminar
Throughout the semester I researched, reached out to composting companies, and brianstormed different ways to compost to create the best course of action to bring composting to Ramsey. The ideas I have thought of for educating Ramsey residents on composting include hosting informative events and adding information on the practice on the Ramsey borough website. My action-based ideas include a drop-off site once a month that towns goers can drop their food waste into, or a composting pilot program in which 10 to 15 Ramsey families would put aside their food waste and bring it to a central location once a week to be weighed and properly composted. Throughout the course of my project, collaboration with the Ramsey Environmental Commission has been instrumental in getting my ideas off of paper and into action.
Pole Vault Training by Julia Dakwar
Type: Event Coordination
Pathway: Profile Project Seminar
My project consisted of creating a training plan for a select number of pole vaulters during the winter track and field season. Their progress was depicted through data collection, in which I created a table for their grip and poles, as well as videotaping their jumps. I grew from participating in this project by learning many skills that I will need for life after high school. This includes responsibility, collaboration, adaptability, and more. Before this project I was very unsure about myself and was afraid to speak out my thoughts about a particular issue. However, as the project progressed, I often had to collaborate with my coaches and athletes to defend or agree on a training plan. I eventually became more confident in my work and in the advice that I was giving to the athletes.
Examining the Notions of Political Democracy in Classical Theater by Warren Cho
Type: Research
Pathway: Profile Project Seminar
First, I chose a topic I wanted to delve deep into; a topic in which there's still an ongoing discussion, which happened to be classical Athenian theater. Then, I conducted thorough research on every facet of Athenian theater, as well as Athenian history to examine the effects of democracy on Athenian society. After the research was conducted, I had to piece together a working research abstract, which would cogently outline the main ideas of my proposed paper. Once that was completed, I then had to research conferences that relate to the world of classics, so that I could submit my abstract for a potential invitation to the conference. Finally, after the conferences were pinpointed, I submitted my research abstract for review. I learned how to analyze literature in a deeper manner, how to research efficiently, and how to provide intellectual commentary. I would like to conduct deeper research on a wider-range of classical literature in college.
