Phase I

Update Spring 2021: The pandemic has slowed down this first phase. All components are purchased. We are looking for a company to volunteer to excavate the area, volunteers to build and source materials like wood to build the platforms, gardening and the like. The volunteer support documents to aid us in this work are linked below! This would be a great project for any scouts looking for their final projects. THIS IS A VOLUNTEER BASED INSTALLATION!

Phase I will be completing the Construction Zone. We will install a Loose Parts Nature Play Kit in this space. See the Create and Build Kit options here.

A site plan specific to the property proposed at Mary A. Hubbard School is being developed by Learning Landscapes.

The site plan is in proposed phases of development and will include possible work that can be completed by donors/sponsors and will include a plan for drainage.

THE PROCESS:

Kerry from Learning Landscapes visited Hubbard for two days in October to soak up as much information as she could about our school community (See pictures below.) She held brainstorming meetings with staff and parents; shared time with children indoors and outdoors to get a feel for what their day is like; spent time in our outdoor space taking measurements and imagining the possibilities of our new space; and visited local inspirational community places to get ideas of native plants, local artists, and what the regional history and environment is all about. She then returned home to work on our project and create our Master Plan.

The community, inclusive of our students, will be involved in the dreaming up, designing and delivering of the site plan in collaboration with the developer. The developers feel strongly that local engagement and involvement brings local commitment to the maintenance and growth of the space and project. We couldn't agree more!

Thanks to the PTO and RPEF - the Construction Zone will be underway in the Spring 2021!
