WSCA students will establish a transcript and a GPA (Grade Point Average)
after their first semester of 9th grade.
Each semester, students will receive a grade and 5 credits per course they complete.
WSCA school transcrips will include both an weighted and an unweighted GPA.
Unweighted GPA: 4.0 is the highest possible Unweighted GPA at most high schools.
Weighed GPA: May exceed 4.0. Includes weighted grade points for AP & Honors courses.
To view your complete transcript, order your unofficial trascripts through Parchment.
Request an unofficial transcripts is sent to your personal email.
If you have questions about the grades listed on you transcript:
First see the teacher.
If your teacher is not able to answer your question, or if they no longer teach at WSCA, see Ms. Repetti.
Your WSCA Transcripts will be updated with your GPA by the following dates.
Requesting your transcript before the below updated date may not display all courses or an updated GPA for the cooresponding Date Range
Semester 1 Grades GPA/Transcript Updated By
Semester 1 Grades February 1st (Jan 25th for seniors)
Semester 2 Grades June 30th
Summer Coursework October 15th (October 1st for seniors)
Calculate your WSCA GPA
UNWEIGHTED GPA (Cannot be above 4.0)
Calculate UNWEIGHED NUMERATOR:
Give yourself points for each semester grade:
A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points
Note: For any outside college courses on your transcript, give yourself TWO of the same grade. Example if you got a B, add in "3" twice.*
Calculated your DENOMINATOR:
Add the total number of high school semester courses completed.
Note: If you have any college courses listed on your WCSA transcript*, add 2 semesters per class taken. One college semester equals 2 semesters of high school courses.
This will be the denominator you use for BOTH your weighted and unweighted GPAs
NUMERATOR/ DENOMINATOR = UNWEIGHTED WEIGHTED GPA
WEIGHTED GPA
Calulate your WEIGHTED GPA NUMERATOR:
Take the UNWEIGHTED NUMERATOR you calculated previously.
Add to your numerator 1 additional point for each semester of an AP or Honors course taken at WSCA **
Take the same DENOMINATOR from your unweighted gpa.
WEIGHTED GPA NUMERATOR/ DENOMINATOR = WEIGHTED GPA
*College courses will only on your transcript when approved in advance by your counselor and used to fulfill a WSCA grad requirement. See section of our website on Taking Outside Courses for details and approval process.
** NO courses taken outside of WSCA will ever be given honors points on your WSCA transcript, regardless whether the outside school named it as AP, Honors or college level.
How colleges and universities calculate your GPA
While WSCA;s GPA calculation method is the most common in our region, high schools throughout the country have dozens calcualting formulas.
For example, while WSCA calculates GPA based on a 4.0 unweighteed and additional points for weighted grades, some schools do not issue addtional points for weighted grades, or may calculate gpa based on a 10.0 scale.
In order for colleges to compare student high school grades and GPA, colleges will typically consider the high school grades and coursework and use their own formula to calculate their GPA, based on their priorites.
Use these calculators: CSU GPA Calculator, UC GPA Calculator
Give yourself points for each semester grade:
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
AP and Honors = 1 extra point
Add up points, then average by number of semesters taken.
9 + 4 + 4 =17
17 /6 semesters = 2.83
Total unweighted GPA of 2.83
Weighted GPA Example - 3 B’s, 2 C’s, 1 A’s
(ex/ 2 semesters of AP and 2 semesters of Honors courses)
Give yourself one extra point for each honors or AP semester before dividing by the number of semesters
9 + 4 + 4 = 17 + 4 = 21
21/6 semesters = 3.5
Total weighted GPA = 3.5
