4/14/2025 Food Waste Mania
Today, we learned about food waste while reviewing text structure and worked on our abilities to synthesize key information from the article and infographic. Students worked in small groups to present information using text structures. Next, they turned to independent work time to answer the questions: Why is food waste a problem? What can be done about it?
Using Canva Education, students are creating a video, presentation or an essay to answer these questions while practicing their synthesizing skills. We will wrap these up next week and present.
Finally, we wrapped up our time together with a few rounds of Pass the Stitch! Students must work together to complete the task of passing the stitch using their hands, elbows, and then feet, all while remaining silent. They could not complete the cycle this week, but we will try again in the coming weeks.
3/31/2025 Stretch or Support
Today, I introduced our new "Stretch or support" time. This will be a time when students are in groups based on their CogAT data. The CogAT assessment is part of what students take when tested to see if they qualify for gifted services.
During Stretch or Support time, students will work on their areas of strength and stretch their understandings or work in groups closely monitored by me to push and support their areas of weakness. These games fall into three categories: verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative. Today was an introduction to a few games we will play. Ask them about their favorites.
3/17/2025 Face Mask Took & Creative Writing
Students were given a plan facemask and then wrote a fiction narrative where the main character used a tool created from the shield. Then students created the tool, and they presented their writing and tool to the class.
Igniting Independent Inquiry
Students selected a topic from a choice board, conducted research to answer given questions, built a product, created a slide show to share their research, and then presented their research and products to their peers.
