SENIORS: ORDER YOUR CAP AND GOWN BY FEB 29!
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college level courses offered to high school students. If you are planning on applying to a school out of state, a private school or a public university in North Carolina that has a more competitive admissions process (like UNC Chapel Hill or NC State), taking AP courses can set you apart from the pack.
5 Reasons to take AP courses

1. Prep for college
AP classes can be as challenging as introductory college courses. They are fast-paced, cover more material than regular classes, and require independent work like research and analysis. Getting a dose of a college-level curriculum early on could ease your transition from high school senior to first-year college student.
2. Rise to the top of the pile
Advanced Placement classes show admissions officers that you're ready for college-level work. Admissions counselors consistently tell us that good grades and academic rigor are the most important factors when schools evaluate applications. Even over standardized test scores!
3. Strengthen your transcript
Many high schools give extra weight to AP grades when calculating your GPA. Taking an AP class and getting a B is often a better choice than getting an A in a regular course.
4. Study what you love
If you're a science whiz, AP Biology or AP Chemistry may give you the extra challenge you crave. If you're the next Ernest Hemingway, head to AP English. Choosing a subject you’re interested in, or have had previous success in, will help you commit to the workload.
5. Get a head start on college reqs
Taking an AP class is great prep for the acing the corresponding AP test. Held every May, AP tests are scored on a scale from 1–5. If your college offers AP credit, a score of a 4 or higher could allow you to earn college credits without paying college tuition. Some students are able to skip the entire first year of college this way, thus cutting the entire cost of their college education by one quarter.

Joining AP Classroom
All students enrolled in AP courses must enroll in the appropriate AP Classroom on the College Board's My AP site:
During the month of September, your AP teacher or Mrs Ubriaco if you are taking an AP course through NCVPS, will provide you with the join code(s) necessary to join the correct sections of your course.
Terms and Conditions
The College Board requires that all students accept the terms and conditions. You will be asked for confirmation of your agreement to these terms as part of your test on exam day.
Absences for Emergencies
Students who have an emergency and are unable to test as scheduled should contact Mrs. Ubriaco, AP Coordinator, immediately by email. We will determine if you are eligible to reschedule to a future testing date.
Exams may be made up in very limited circumstances; a doctor's note will be required for absences missed due to illness.
If you are quarantined, please make sure that you tell me - please do not assume that message will be relayed to me.
Sending Scores to Colleges
Seniors should send their official scores to the college they will attend. This will send all exam scores for all AP exams you ever took. The deadline to make this request is June 20 for 2024 Exams.

Sophomores and Juniors should not send their scores at this time. You will report unofficial scores on college applications, and send your official scores at the end of your senior year.
Score Release
Scores will be available starting in early July 202. Scores are released online on the College Board site.
