Our Recycling Program educated us about how to make best use of the things that we discard without a thought. We recycled water cans, tires, plastic bottles etc... and learned that our creativity can give life to a lot of things that we normally throw in the bin.
Tires take up a lot of space and give out toxic gases in the landfills. Tires can be used in gardening to grow flowers and ornamental crops instead of pots. Tires can be used for many other interesting and creative purposes too.
These water cans can be used for vertical gardening even in small living spaces. We drilled small windows on the sides of these cans. We grew potatoes in the cans which sprouted through the small windows. Later, the cans were turned upside down to collect the harvest. Life would be so beautiful with less waste. All you need is a bit of creativity before you decide to throw things in the bin.
Water Lilies were grown in reused drums to learn about adaptation in aquatic plants.
Students harvesting carrots during the break. The carrots were grown in reused cans in the recycling corner of the school.
