To link with UN's Sustainable Development Goal of sustainable cities and development, we decided to grow a tower garden inside our school. The tower garden uses very less water. The water is pumped from a tank beneath the tower. This comes down as a mist to moisturize the roots of the plants on the tower. The water is changed fortnightly and nutritional supplements are added to the water. We found that leafy greens grow well in the aero-ponic structures. We harvested lettuce, mustard etc...and sold them in our community. Even though we tried growing cucumbers by hand pollination, we didn't get good results. However, as shown in a research conducted by our senior students, plants grew with much vigor in aeroponic conditions compared to natural conditions. They said the reason for this could be the absence of pests and diseases in the indoor tower garden.
