Dear Students,
I hope this finds you well and looking forward to your return to school. I know that all of the administration and faculty are very excited to welcome you back - it has been a lonely few weeks in the hallways of QAD.
We do understand that this is, again, a transition for you, and we are committed to supporting all of you as we navigate yet another different return to school. With that said, I can’t stress enough how important it is that in the transition we keep the health and wellbeing of our entire community at the center of what we do and how we show up. One way we all need to be committed to doing that is to take shared responsibility to adhere to the guidelines that we will be implementing according to the guidance from the Ministry. As a strong community, if we work together in accordance with our shared QAD values - safe, responsible, respectful, we will have a smooth transition that supports everyone’s wellbeing and learning.
Keeping that in mind, the following are to be strictly enforced:
All students and faculty must wear K-94, N-95 or at minimum three-ply surgical masks at all times.
Masks may only be removed to eat while you are seated and eating during breaks.
You will be expected to maintain a meter of distance between yourselves and others on campus.
If you demonstrate any symptoms of illness, you must stay at home and participate in online learning via Google Classroom.
Any students exhibiting symptoms while on campus will be isolated and sent home immediately.
Following entry into school, you must comply with the guideline of staying within the designated grade level area and exhibit the safe, responsible, and respectful behavior that you are all capable of . (Designated grade level areas will be clearly marked as you enter the school on Sunday.)
Testing and Arrival on Sunday
Please refer to Mr. Meek’s communication on Rapid Antigen Testing requirements which was sent to your parents. For Senior School students, you must satisfy TWO requirements to be allowed into school on Sunday: a green EHTERAZ and proof of a negative antigen test taken within the last 48 hours. There are two ways to show proof of a negative antigen test:
IF you complete the test in a certified testing center, you must bring with you the negative test results paper issued by the testing center.
IF you choose to test at home with a home rapid antigen test, then your parents must fill out a declaration of negative results using this electronic form. In order for you to have proof of the form submittance, you must either take a screenshot or picture of the confirmation of form submission.
Please understand that according to Ministry guidelines, students who do not meet both requirements: a green EHTERAZ and proof of a negative antigen test within 48 hours will not be allowed to enter the school and will need to return home.
NOTE: Students will only be allowed to enter the school through the main entrance. All other entrances will remain closed until further notice.
Schedule for Learning
We will be implementing this transition schedule. Important points to note:
Classes will begin on Sunday with the Week 2 schedule (this is where we are in the rotation)
Classes begin at 7:05 with an academic block. It is critical that you make morning transportation plans to ensure you are here on time for the start of your academic learning time. Please allow for extra time on Sunday due to the entrance requirements above.
We will hold Grade Level Assemblies on Sunday during F block to further update you and ensure common understanding of expectations.
During the day, there will be two 20-minute breaks instead of a longer lunch break. This is due to restrictions in movement around the school. Please bring healthy food/snacks and water as there will be no food service, and students will eat in their designated Grade Level areas.
With the reduced lunch break, school will end at 13:40 on S-M-W-Th and at 12:45 on Tuesday.
The extended HL learning times are specifically designed to support the IBDP HL Grade 12 students to prepare for their upcoming exams. It is important that those of you who are part of this cohort take advantage of this extra learning time and support.
Restriction on Movement
To comply with Ministry requirements, there will be some restrictions on movement with each Grade Level cohort having a designated area of the building assigned to them. For the health and safety of all of the students and faculty, it is important that students comply with these restrictions.
Online Learning
You are only to opt for online learning if you have a medical excuse. Absences from school itself will be accumulated according to regular policy. Should you be ill or in quarantine, online learning will be asynchronous and through Google Classroom and individual student contact with teachers as necessary.
Again, we are certainly looking forward to welcoming you all back to the QAD campus. Some of the restrictions that are currently necessary to keep everyone healthy should not dim the joy of coming back together on campus as a learning community.
Warm regards,
Dr. Christie Powell
QAD Senior School Principal

Tomorrow morning (11th January) will be your first scheduled Advisory lesson.
At 10AM please use this Google Meet link from the Grade Cohort Google Classroom, and join me for 15 minutes before you go to your advisory teachers.
See you in the morning!
I hope you all had a fantastic winter break, spending lots of time with family and friends, resting, and investing time in yourself.
As you know, it was my first time back home in nearly three years. All was well, until Christmas day when my Dad gifted me COVID! How lucky am I!? So like many of you, I am still stuck in England, and have no idea when I'll get the green light to travel back to my adopted home, Qatar.
Unfortunately, we will be starting our studies online again. I never thought this would happen again, but here we are! I'm sure many of you will be feeling disappointed, anxious, and perhaps even frustrated with this. Just remember, we are all in this together and you can only do your best.
A number of your teachers are not in Qatar yet, this means they will be teaching at different times of the day (this could be 1AM, 3AM, 11PM - all sorts of crazy variations). I'm sure that may also be the case for many of you. Do your best to be online, present on time, and patient with everyone in the lesson.
I ask that you continue to represent yourselves, our grade, Mrs Anderson, and myself in a polite, mature, and positive manner whilst we study online.
Please keep your cameras on at the start and end of every lesson (during the lesson, if the teacher requires that of you). Please raise your hand virtually, if you want to comment or ask questions in a lesson. Please refrain from making inappropriate comments/ noises/ signs whilst learning.
Other things you could do to make this process a bit brighter for everyone involved: Say good morning/ afternoon to the teacher and your peers, say thank you, please, excuse me, and goodbye whenever appropriate, smile, remember that everyone (teachers included) will struggle with aspects of this process again. Let's support one another, and hope this doesn't last too long.
There will be an assembly at 8AM on Monday 10th. You can access that here.
I will share a range of supporting documents for this period, including the timetable, and expectations for online learning. All of this information can be found here, and in the G9 Cohort Google Classroom.
I look forward to seeing you all again soon - virtually tomorrow!
Enjoy your evenings.
Dear all,
It is a time of year where many of your teachers give thanks for the things they are grateful for in their lives, reflect on the year that has passed, and set intentions for the new year to come. As part of this, I would like to share any words of positivity you have for any of your teachers, or staff this year.
You may keep it anonymous, or add your name (up to you).
If you have anything nice to say about any teacher(s) - please use the linked form to give your comments.

Qatar sustainability week is nearly upon us, and we have some exciting activities for you to do!
To begin with, please click on the survey attached and answer the questions about environmental pollution.
Next, watch the video below by Sir David Attenborough. Discuss with your advisory teacher how you feel as you watch the video.
After school tonight, take a 10-minute walk anywhere outside. Take your time and engage each of your senses one by one. What do you see, smell, and hear? What is one thing you are thankful about what you just observed? Can you think of reasons why nature does not produce any waste?
Share your thoughts using the Treasure Earth app (Under Litter-less campaign or Community) or on Instagram with the hashtag #litterlesscampaign
Do you think you could take up the challenge of living a full day of your life without creating any waste? If so, come see me to enter a competition to prove that you can!

There will be a BIG push this week to remind you to be in your uniform. I will remind you this week. Next week, the expectation is that you are in your correct uniform. If you are not in your correct uniform you will need to contact home, have them bring in your uniform whilst you wait at main reception.
Expectations around PHE kit and school uniform for this school year.
You may wear your PHE kit to school if it is the first block of the day after advisory.
You must bring a school uniform to change into for the remainder of the day.
If PHE is not your first block of the day, you must arrive to school in school uniform and bring your PHE kit with you to school.
You are not required to return to your school uniform if PHE is your last block of the school day as you will be going home after school.
School Photos
I still have a number of photos from the Grade Seven photoshoot. Please find me during break or lunchtime to collect, if you haven't already.

Return to Full Day Schedule at QAD
Tomorrow we will return to our full day schedule at QAD. While classes will not change, Lunch will be restored, and as a result we will not finish until 2:10 p.m.
Please plan with your family and driver to be picked up just a little bit later due to the lunch period timings.
As well, we encourage all students to bring a lunch to school. While we will continue to provide a service to purchase lunch, lines have been long so we would encourage students, where possible, to bring a lunch.
Tuesdays Shortened Slightly
We have shortened Tuesday class times to end at 1:10 p.m. to better align with the pick-up times at the Primary School. Please see the complete timetable at the link below.
