Grading Policy

PYLUSD supports 50 minutes of homework nightly plus 20 minutes of silent reading. Time is given in class to work on homework. A student's productivity can determine how much work will need to be completed at home. Scholar pages are given weekly to reinforce language arts lessons in spelling, vocabulary, and grammar.

Homework is not used for letter grades, only as an indicator for a child's effort score.

All homework and classwork is graded and recorded in Aeries. If an assignment is in your red Thursday Folder without a grade, comment, or stamp, send it back! Have your child turn in the page to the white tray. Late work is always accepted.

Please have parent and child keep an eye on their grades through the Aeries Portal.

Understand too that my end goal for the semester is a balanced collection of grades, which is not evident when looking at it each week. Absences may turn in work a week later. Please give grace for grading late work as new assignments will have a higher priority.

Letter Grades will be weighted as follows: (Quizzes are open note)

    • Reading- 20% Vocabulary test 20% Classwork 60% Comprehension quiz or test

    • Writing- 25% Dictation Sentences/Spelling Test 25% Grammar Quiz 50% Essay

    • Science- scores are not weighted, lab notes typically count for 2/3 of the grade
