STEM is a class that combines the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to create human artifacts. During this one trimester class, students will be learning fundamental skills to help them use their humanity and creativity to solve problems and make sense of the world around them. The class will focus on the CSTA Computer Science Standards of Impacts of Computing, covering the culture of technology and tradeoffs and bias associated with everyday technology. Students are encouraged to try something new and to create projects that are meaningful to them.
Each trimester will include problem solving challenges and activities related to the following topics:
1 Dimensional design with pipe cleaners, clay, string, and 3D prints
2 Dimensional design with paint, collage, weaving, and digital imagery
3 Dimensional design with origami, stuffed animals, cardboard, and 3D printed sculptures
4 Dimensional design with Rube Goldberg machines, virtual simulations, and 3D printed kinetic sculptures
All schedules subject to change. Notice will be given when changes are made.
