Welcome to the Computer Science Immersion at SRTMS! This is going to be an exciting year of building computer programming skills while using digital tools to create meaningful projects. My focus is for students in all grade levels to create creative and relevant coding projects that challenge them at their own level. I will be coordinating with teachers at all grade levels to ensure that the coding instruction supports the academic focus in the classroom and want to empower students to apply their knowledge to new contexts. We will use a variety of web-based programs for coding and may try new platforms throughout the year. Our goal to create 21st century learners includes helping them develop the skills and aptitude to learn any upcoming technology for the unknown jobs of the future.
TK and K students will learn the fundamentals of a computer and keyboard and will use the computer to practice concepts related to patterns, cause and effect, and sequences.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students are practicing thinking logically and giving clear instructions. Students will be introduced to coding fundamentals and will practice troubleshooting coding and computer issues.
4th and 5th grade students are solidifying their fundamental knowledge of block based coding to solve unique problems and to apply their knowledge of Scratch to other block-based coding platforms.
Middle school students are taking their fundamental knowledge of block based coding and will begin to translate to the fundamentals of text based coding.
