MATH Workshop is the individualized math block in our classroom. It is a management system that allows students to work on authentic math practice while I meet with small groups and individual students. In the beginning of the year, we will spend a great deal of time learning how to work independently and create self-ownership in student's learning. This explicit teaching of behavior allows the workshop time to run smoothly, as all students know exactly what to do, so that I can focus my attention on very individualized math instruction.
During math time, students will participate in a 60-minute block of teacher led mini-lessons on daily skills. These lessons will come from our math curriculum book, My Math, as well as various other math resources that math our state standards. Students will also participate in teacher and self-selected math activities. Your child will come to love and crave this time each day to become a fantastic mathematician!

Meet with your Professor
Students work in a small group that is differentiated with the teacher. This gives the teacher and students the opportunity to build upon individualized skills that pertain to the small groups academic needs within reading. (Of course, this is Mrs. Hoyt's favorite rotation!)
At Your Desk
This rotation allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of on-going skills that we are working on in our mini-lessons.
Technology
Students will have the opportunity to work with online programs that will individualize instruction and practice for each student based on their specific needs.
Hands on
Students will have the opportunity to work individually, with partners, and in small groups with interactive games and activities that will reinforce present and past skills, as well as basic math principals.
