Please expect to see daily homework from your child. It will be the responsibility of each student to record the assignments in their student planners which are to be signed by an adult each night.

Writing
This year we will focus on daily writing skills including paragraph structure, grammar, typing ,and cursive handwriting.
We will write at least three complete essays this year; Opinion, Explanatory, & Narrative.
For each, we will be reviewing research skills and completing the proper steps in the writing process.

* Students should be reading at least 20min a day and will be required to complete a reading log starting week 2.
* Students will have weekly spelling tests taken from Words our Way. This is a highly individualized reading program which will match spelling lists to each student based on their skill level. Word study will occur in class as well as at home.
* Each quarter will consist of 4-5 stories from our text book and approximately 4 weeks of a literature study. Our novels this year will be Tuck Everlasting, Hatchet, Number the Stars and Bridge to Terabithia.
