Swimmers should be able to swim all 4 strokes legally.
Swimmers should have a legal start. Swimmers should also be able to complete a legal backstroke start.
High-school only athletes are required to attend all practices and must communicate absences to Coach Haupt via email.
Club athletes must attend at least one high school swim event (either a meet or practice) per week and their club practices regularly. There will be occasions when they will be required to attend high school practices and notice will be given in advance.
All athletes are required to compete in all meets unless there are capacity limits or athletes are subjected to absence-related/disciplinary action. Absences due to illness, etc. must be directly communicated with the Coach Haupt prior to any meet. Lack of communication is inexcusable when it can affect the entirety of a team and their success.
Club athletes are not allowed to miss high school meets for club meets unless it is arranged with the coaching staff ahead of time.
11/11/2025: BOYS TRY-OUT DAY (Girls will help with timing) Please prepare for a time trial of the following events during this practice --> 100 free and 100 Individual Medley. All events must be legal from start to finish, including not breaking stroke on the fly.
11/12/2025: GIRLS TRY-OUT DAY (Boys will help with timing) Please prepare for a time trial of the following events during this practice --> 100 free and 100 Individual Medley. All events must be legal from start to finish, including not breaking stroke on the fly.
11/13/2025: MAKE-UP TRY-OUTS/Practice: Depending on remaining swimmers that need to try-out, we will run remaining trials. Remaining time will be dedicated to practice.
Swimmers that complete these three days, meet time expectations, and show a positive attitude have a strong chance on making either the varsity or junior varsity squad.
Club swimmers will attend tryouts for their trial day (either girls or boys). You will not be on the team unless you tryout.
The first practice for Dive is November 16, 2025 from 12:30-2:30pm at Ashburn Rec Center. Practices will be scheduled for Sundays at the same time, unless noted otherwise.

The ideal size for a dive team is a total of 8 student-athletes: 4 boys and 4 girls. This allows us to compete a full roster at dual meets with one extra spot so we can make sure everyone on the team has time to develop as a diver.
Tryouts: In general, prior dive experience is recommended but NOT required. This program has had a lot of success developing student-athletes who never dove before. Student-athletes should come with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. It is possible to have cuts, but it will be on an athlete-by-athlete basis. Coach will be evaluating divers on their ability to complete dives from all five dive groups, the number of dives they can compete, form, ability to take instruction and corrections, and general safety.
We represent ourselves, our families, and PVI at all times. We hold each of you in high regard as members of this team. We trust in you a responsibility TO ACT APPROPRIATELY IN AND OUT OF THE WATER. Student-athletes will be held to the PVI Parent & Student Handbook at all athletic events held on or off campus. Hazing in any form will not be tolerated. Any incident of hazing will result in immediate dismissal from the team. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken regarding any incident that occurs at school, on deck, during practice, on the buses going to and from meets, and during meets as well.
Mission of the Swim and Dive Team: to provide a healthy environment for all student athletes to be safe and experience success and sportsmanship, both in and out of the pool.
Team Expectations:
1. Members of this team are students first, and athletes second. It is expected that swimmers and divers are attentive and respectful in the classroom, and obtain satisfactory grades in order to participate as a member of the swim and dive team.
2. Swimmers and Divers are expected to place the PVI Swim and Dive program as a top priority. If an athlete also participates with a club team, the expectation is that he/she will attend all PVI meets for which they qualify and also prioritize at least one PVI Swim/Dive event per week. That can include a meet and/or practice. Students who do not participate in a club team should attend all practices. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to compete in meets or even removal from the team.
3. Athletes are expected to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship to all teammates, coaches and opponents. As a part of the team, we represent the PVI community and should always be striving to grow in grace and wisdom. Parents are expected to be good fans and abide by WCAC and Diocese Sportsmanship guidelines. Fans who behave inappropriately can be removed at any time.
4. Communication is key. Athletes and parents are expected to address Swim/Dive related issues with the coaches first. The communication chain is as follows: Student-athlete to Coach, student-athlete and parents to Coach, student-athlete and parents to Coach and Athletic Director. It is always best to avoid approaching coaches on the pool deck or in the presence of other swimmers/parents with sensitive topics. Please follow the “24 hour rule” when it comes to email communication with coaches.
5. Team communication will be managed using Team Snap. Use discretion with email, texting and social media etc. where it pertains to you as well as the Paul VI Swim and Dive Program and PVI, in general.
6. Swimmers and Divers MUST communicate absences due to illness or other reasons with their coach. All injuries must be reported to coaches immediately.
7. If an athlete leaves school due to sickness, they cannot return to participate in a meet or practice. Furthermore, if the athlete arrives after 9:20 am or after mass on a liturgy day, they are ineligible to participate in practice or meets that day.
8. Athletes are allowed to ride home from a meet with their parents or another parent, if it has been approved by their parents and the coaching staff is aware.
9. The members of the team will follow all PVI and Diocese rules including: the PVI, parent-student handbook, and the athletic code of conduct. Be sure to read the handbook thoroughly.
10. Varsity letters will be distributed at the end of the season to all swimmers and divers who meet qualifying times for the VISAA state competition.
As a member of the PVI Swim and Dive team, I and my parent/guardian understand and agree to follow the expectations listed above.
Please be advised that additional rules which athletes are expected to follow may be issued verbally by the coaching staff as the season progresses.
