SUMMER PROGRAMS

Rensselaer Architecture Career Discovery Program

Summer break will be here before long – and as you know, it is a great time for students to explore what piques their interest! Students with an interest in art, science, and technology, are invited to register for one of our Architecture Career Discovery Programs.

This two-week class is designed to expose you to a high-quality undergraduate architecture program. The core of this course is studio work.

High school students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade in the fall who are interested in future careers in architecture or design-related fields and curious about the world are encouraged to apply. The first week of the course will focus on building models and making drawings by hand. The second week will focus on using the computer as a design tool. Students will learn 3D modeling in Rhinoceros, 2D drawing, and image editing in Adobe Creative Suite.

This exciting, immersive workshop will open your eyes to architecture as a future career and provide you with an impressive portfolio piece, essential to be accepted into a premier program - like Rensselaer.

Bossgirls is a summer entrepreneurship program from the Zahn Innovation Center at The City College of New York (CCNY) for high school (current 9-12th graders) girls and nonbinary students. The program is fully sponsored by Standard Chartered as part of its Futuremakers Initiative.

If you’ve ever thought about running your own business, inventing something new, or being part of a movement to create change in the world, Bossgirls is for you! You’ll join a community of other bossgirls like yourself to discover entrepreneurship. You and a team of other bossgirls will focus on a problem, come up with an innovative solution for it, research the market, compare competitors, learn how to price your product & prototype it, and create a brand around your idea. At the end of the program, you’ll pitch your idea to an audience--think Shark Tank without the sharks. All the while, you’ll get to meet  entrepreneurs & get advice from expert mentors from Standard Chartered, our program sponsor.

And just so your parents know... our goal is to introduce entrepreneurship to you as not only a possible career path, but a mindset that advances any course of learning. Our curriculum puts the customer first, introducing you to a human-centered design approach to problem-solving. You’ll learn how to analyze a problem and find a business opportunity within it. Plus, having this on your resume or college application looks great!

Columbia Pre-College Programs, where our summer 2024 application is officially open, we are already looking ahead to sunnier days.

Students who are currently in grades 8-12 may apply for our summer Academic Enrichment Programs to try their hand at over 70 subjects normally reserved for college. For example: Constitutional Law, Investment Portfolio Management, Data Science and Machine Learning, and Introduction to Architectural Design and Theory, to name a few.

We offer online courses and we have two in-person program options in NYC: one for students commuting to campus daily and a residential program with an age requirement of 16 years or older in which students live in on-campus housing.
