At the beginning of the piece you will find your clef, key signature and time signature. You will also see your clef and key signature at the beginning of every line of music.
We use two different clefs In band class.
Treble Clef - Flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto, tenor and bari sax, trumpet, french horn, bells
Bass Clef - Trombone, baritone, tuba, bassoon
The red arrows are pointing to examples of different key signatures.
The key signature happens next to the clef at the beginning of each line. You may see sharps, flats or nothing In the key signature. Sometimes if they key signature changes you may also see a natural sign.
The top number In the time signature tells us how many beats are in a measure. The bottom number tells us what kind of note gets the beat.Â
A tempo is a word that tells us how fast or slow to play the music. The picture to the left shows some common examples.
This website also includes a ton of helpful information about what a tempo is and where to find it!

Articulations are symbols that tell us how to tongue or hit (percussion) the notes.
