Below you will find links to some of our local music stores and rental companies. These are not the only stores in the area, please feel free to do your own research! The Putnam Valley music department does not endorse any one company, but the following companies do typically deliver rental instruments to our schools:
There are other options for obtaining new and used instruments, including online websites such as www.wwbw.com, and www.dillonmusic.com. Please use extreme caution when buying musical instruments online, as the condition they are in is sometimes misrepresented. Makes and models vary greatly, so beware of “bargain brands”. Also, we do not recommend purchasing instruments from NON-music, bulk stores. Although they appear to be a good discount for a new instrument, they are often very difficult to play and most music stores will not repair them. Many colored instruments will be of a similarly poor quality. Finally, please be very careful about purchasing instruments off of e-bay. While there are a number of very good deals on new and especially used instruments from honest sellers, there are an even greater number of instruments that, for the most part, do not play well, if at all. If you have any questions, or if you have an instrument in your possession that you would like me to look at, please feel free to contact me. The quality of your child’s instrument is directly correlated to their success. If you have any questions about specific instrument brands, we would be happy to help make recommendations!
