Johnson, who had been thinking about retiring this offseason, released his statement and announced his step away from the NFL on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Johnson stated, “Right now, what’s most important to me is continuing to focus on my mental health and spending more time with my kids and family.”

In his long, Hall of Fame-worthy career with the Eagles, he received first-team All-Pro honors twice, was named to the Pro Bowl six times, and helped the Eagles win two Super Bowls.

In his absence, the Eagles have lost two straight games and are still trying to figure out how to navigate without him on the field.

After a long 14 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, RT Lane Johnson announces his retirement midseason.

The Eagles drafted Johnson fourth overall in 2013. Before coming to the NFL, he was a three-sport athlete in high school. After a JUCO coach saw his talent, he offered him a scholarship. Johnson made a name for himself and transferred from Kilgore to the University of Oklahoma, where he became an offensive lineman.

Philadelphia 76ers' first regular season game of the 2026–27 NBA season

The LeBron era in Philly begins with the first regular season game. They will play on Oct 20 at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. James had his first pre-season debut on Oct 8, in a 114-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. James had 10 points, five assists, four rebounds, playing a total of 18 minutes (only the first half).

The 41-year-old forward signed a two-year deal with 76ers after spending the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Joining James for the 76ers this season will be Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and head coach Nick Nurse. With the new addition of James and Brown, the 76ers just may boast the best starting five in the NBA, and are looking at a promising 2026-2027 NBA season.

Marvin Harrison Jr. traded from Arizona Cardinals to Houston Texans in blockbuster trade

After two full seasons as a Cardinal, Marvin Harrison Jr. has been traded to the Houston Texans after an underwhelming start to his third season.

The Texans traded away a 2027 second round pick (39th overall) and a 2027 sixth round pick in return for former fourth overall pick Harrison Jr., and a 2027 seventh round pick.

The Cardinals and Harrison Jr. started off on not so good terms in his rookie year when he asked the team to buy him a $50,000 jugs machine that he could use at home. This just proves that some teams are not doing everything in their power to win a Super Bowl.

Harrison Jr. coming to the Texans is reuniting him with a familiar face, Texans quarterback CJ Stroud. They were fellow Ohio State teammates for two seasons in 2021 and 2022. In the 2022 season with Stroud, Harrison Jr. tied the university's career-high catches with 77. He also had 1,263 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns, proving to be one of Stroud’s favorite offensive weapons.

The Texans and Harrsion Jr. are hoping to spark life into his so far disappointing career in the NFL; starting against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 18 as he is set to be wide receiver two behind Nico Collins.

On Sunday, Oct. 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Week 5 AFC vs. NFC matchup. The Eagles fell to the Jaguars 19-17 as kicker Cam Little hit a 57-yard field goal as time expired.

Fellow students were unsatisfied with the Eagles performance and had this to say

Freshman Caiden Colomy said, “The Eagles’ performance was awful and head coach Nick Sirriani is to blame.”

Junior John Sassi said, “The athletic trainer needs to step up so our whole team isn't injured by halftime.”

Next week the 2-3 Eagles are at home to face the 2-2 Carolina Panthers on Oct. 23 at 1:00 EST.

Dave Roberts stands by Shohei Ohtani despite postseason slump

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will start in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. The decision came as the team fell behind 2-0 against the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS seven-game series.

Ohtani has struggled in the postseason, batting .150 after going 0-for-4 in Game 2. The slugger has not hit a home run since Aug. 18 while dealing with arm and knee injuries.

Despite the slump, Roberts said his confidence in Ohtani has never wavered. Ohtani said in recent interviews that he took full responsibility for his recent performance.

The Dodgers' three-peat is looking doubtful

The Los Angeles Dodgers reached the NLCS for the third consecutive year, but this time their run ended in disappointment. After a solid 3-1 series win over the Braves in the NLDS, they ran into the Milwaukee Brewers, the top team in baseball this season.

Game one was a classic pitchers’ duel. Tarik Skubal, the Dodgers’ ace, faced off against Cy Young favorite Jacob Misiorowski. Despite outhitting the Brewers, the Dodgers narrowly lost 2-1. In game two, hopes were high with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound, but he had a rough outing, allowing three runs early. The Brewers took advantage and won 7-4, putting the Dodgers in a hole.

Injuries plagued the Dodgers throughout the series. Superstar Shohei Ohtani, dealing with knee, bicep, neck, and hip issues, was moved down in the lineup due to his struggles at the plate. Even though he’s a four-time MVP, he had a rare cold streak when the team needed him most.

Game three offered some hope. Blake Snell pitched one of his best playoff games, keeping the Dodgers ahead until the seventh inning. But back-to-back home runs by the Brewers quickly erased the lead, and L.A. lost 6-2.

Ohtani finally broke his slump in game four, hitting a three-run homer after being moved back to leadoff, but it wasn’t enough. The Dodgers lost 6-4 and were swept by the Brewers, ending their season abruptly.

After two straight championships, the Dodgers’ bid for a three-peat was stopped by a mix of injuries, untimely slumps, and a dominant opponent. As they head into the offseason, the team faces tough questions about their roster, the health of their stars, and what it will take to return to championship form next year.

The Buffalo Bills take down the Los Angeles Rams 37-34

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills defeated Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams in a wild overtime game, helping Allen win his first career overtime game.

For the first half Tyler Bass scored the first points of the game for the Bills with a field goal and Keon Coleman caught a 14-yard touchdown thrown by Allen.

In the second half James Cook III scored a 17-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and a five yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Allen had one rushing touchdown and a two point conversion pass to Dalton Kincaid.

In overtime Bass won the game with a 45-yard field goal.

LeBron James traded to 76ers!

The Philadelphia 76ers could be on their way to being championship contenders, according to NBA media, now that they have acquired LeBron James. Traded from the Los Angeles Lakers, James is considered by many to be the greatest of all time because of his eye-popping stats: one, his enormous number of points he has, 43,440 total. Two, his high scoring average of 31.4 PPG per game.

The 76ers record was mediocre last season with 45 wins and 37 losses but they were still in the playoffs. LeBron currently has four NBA championships to bring to the table for the Philadelphia 76ers; a fifth ring with the Sixers doesn't sound unlikely.

Postseason Setback: Yankees slugger Aaron Judge steps back missing Wild Card series due to calf injury

The New York Yankees will have to navigate the upcoming Wild Card series without their star captain, Aaron Judge. On Sept. 22 manager Aaron Boone confirmed that the three-time American league MVP is not expected to be on the roster when the playoffs begin soon.

Judge was officially placed on the 10-day injured list last Friday, Sept. 19, following a moderate grade right calf strain. The injury occurred during a game on Sept. 16, when Judge was removed due to tightness in his lower right leg. To treat the strain, Judge recently received a type of injection called PRP which helps speed up an injured area like a muscle or tendon's healing process.

This latest setback comes during what has been a difficult, injury-filled 2026 season for the slugger. Judge had previously missed three months of action due to a stress fracture in his ribs, only returning to the lineup on Sept. 7. Since his return, his stats have been below average, batting with a .241 average; he is a .291 career slugger.

As the Yankees finish their regular season against the Rays and Orioles, they now face the challenge of a postseason run without their star captain. With the Wild Card round beginning on Sept. 29, the team will look to players like Giancarlo Stanton and Jazz Chisholm Jr. to step up and prove they can still win in October without Judge in the lineup.

Aaron Donald returns to the Rams

Future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Donald will return to play for the Los Angeles Rams after more than two years away from the league. Donald is signing a one year, $20 million deal. Los Angeles also acquired Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns to form an unprecedented defensive line and super team.

This super team includes Mathew Stafford, Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, Devante Adams, Garrett, Donald, Trent McDuffie, and more, with Sean McVay controlling everything. But super teams don't usually live up to the hype, so what about a super duo?

Donald and Garrett are two of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history. They both have multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards and All-Pro selections, making them two of the most decorated defensive lineman in NFL history. But will Donald be the same at age 35?

Super Bowl champion Zach Ertz returns to the Philadelphia Eagles after Dallas Goedert's injury

After five years away, three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz has returned to Philly.

Eagles starting tight end Dallas Goedert suffered an MCL sprain and will be out for four weeks, which left that spot open. With other tight ends also on injury reserve, the Eagles brought back Ertz to fill that spot.

During Ertz's first run with the Eagles in 2018, he set an NFL record with 116 catches in one season. He also had the game-winning touchdown in the Eagles' first franchise Super Bowl.

With his return to the Eagles, he is able to make more franchise history with the most receptions. He is 11 receptions short of the current record of 589 held by Harold Carmichael.

He is currently on the practice squad, hoping to be elevated to the active roster for Monday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Junior Joey Halstead said, ”They played amazing, Jalen Hurts locked in and Zach Ertz is gonna carry the season.”

Sophomore John Sassi said, “I really think they played horribly.” Sassi also stated, “Jalen Hurts must have found a new job at Wawa the way he was serving meatball subs.”

In week three the 2-0 Eagles travel to Chicago to play the 1-1 Chicago Bears on Sept. 28 on “Monday Night Football.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, at Nissan Stadium in Nashville Tennessee, the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Tennessee Titans in an AFC vs NFC clash, resulting in a 24-20 victory. The Birds improve to 2-0 on the year while the Titans fall to 0-2.

Fellow students had varying opinions about the Eagles performance in the game.

Key injured Dodgers players comes back off the injured list for a series that can decide the Padres' playoffs

The MLB playoffs are right around the corner, with the Los Angeles Dodgers already clinched, playing the San Diego Padres in a series that could decide their playoff fate.

The Padres are fighting for a playoff spot as they head into an away series against the Dodgers. The odds are in the Dodgers' favor, with All-Star outfielder Andy Pages coming back off the injured list for the series.

Historically, Pages has some numbers that stand out when going against the Padres at home, with a .297 batting average, 11 hits, four home runs, 10 RBIs, and nine runs in just 13 games.

But that isn’t the only player the Padres need to worry about. Roki Sasaki is a young starting pitcher who comes out of the bullpen sometimes, but so far in the 2026 season with a .500 record, 5-5, a concerning 4.56 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP.

Sasaki was signed out of Japan on Jan. 22, 2025, who was dominating the Japanese league, but so far has had some major control problems in the MLB.

History teacher and baseball fan Mr. Ramos said, “The Padres should be able to make it; they're playing really good ball.”

While the series is tied, in the first game Sasaki pitched one shutout inning, two hits, and two strikeouts. Pages did a decent job on the offensive side, going 0-2 with a walk, run and a hit-by-pitch. While it’s not too late for the Padres to make the playoffs, they need to beat out the Phillies, Diamondbacks and Cubs
