Phils are off to a slow start this season
By Liam C., Brett L. and Brant R.
April 1, 2026
The Philadelphia Phillies lost their third game in a row to bring their losing streak to three with a record of 1-3 as of March 30, with their last loss being to the Washington Nationals with a score of 13-2. Many fans are upset with the losses and performance of the team.
Some fans believe it's the hitting that leads to them not winning. Other fans think it's a management problem, and they need to look for a new manager for them to start winning more games.
Sophomore John Sassi had strong opinions on the topic. “The Phillies lost because they don’t have a good manager, he doesn’t know how to run the program right. The pitching is absolutely dog water, and we just can’t hit the ball.”
Sophomore Scotty Streitz thinks hitting is the problem. “I think the Phillies lost because our top three hitters can’t hit right now, and the team is just playing bad.”
The Phils are looking to turn this season around and get sharper at hitting.

Some of the teams in the Eastern Conference include the Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons. Sophomore Aiden Collazo said, “I think if the Spurs are healthy they will go very far.”
Basketball fans have high expectations for this upcoming playoffs this should be an exciting and eye opening round.
According to Phillies.com, Phillies manager Rob Tomspon said, “I think everybody in the lineup is trying to get off to a good start. They’re maybe a little bit anxious. They’ll settle in.”
According to Phillies.com, Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper said, “Three games in. Obviously, it’s not the start we wanted to have, but we’ll get there.”
The Phillies left this series with positive feelings going into the next games and the rest of the season. Hopefully having learned from their mistakes in the first series of their season they are able to carry their positive thoughts into the following series to come this season.

Philadelphia Flyers fight for the playoffs
By Kevin P.
April 1, 2026
The Philadelphia Flyers currently have a shot of making it to the NHL playoffs. Since the break for the 2026 Winter Olympics concluded on Feb. 25, they are 12-5-1. They keep racking up wins against big teams and are looking to sneak into the playoffs, the first time since the 2019-20 season. With only a slim chance to make the playoffs, will they get in?
The Flyers have been mediocre over the past few years. Some remember their back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in 1974 and 1975, but most remember the Flyers always falling short. They have not made it to the playoffs since the 2019-20 season, losing in the second round to the New York Islanders. The Flyers have been in a perpetual state of rebuilding for many years now. This year, however, they could have a chance. Making many changes recently, the Flyers made Rick Tocchet their head coach, replacing John Tortorella. They signed Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras over the offseason, and he has been nothing short of fantastic. Just on Sunday, March 29, they signed Porter Martone, who they drafted with the sixth pick of the 2025 NHL draft. Martone, who is the Flyers’ top prospect, is only 19 years old and most recently played with the Michigan State Spartans. He made his NHL debut on Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals.
But homing in on this season, the Flyers have had their highs and lows. As of Wednesday, they are 37-25-12, and sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division. Owen Tippett leads the team with 27 goals, and Travis Konecny leads the team in assists and points, 39 and 65 respectively. The Flyers only have eight games left to go in their season. Among those eight, they play multiple intradivisional teams. They conclude their season on Tuesday, April 14, home against the Montreal Canadiens.
One thing standing in the way, however, are other teams in the division. There is no margin for error in the coming weeks. In order to finish with a playoff spot, they need to win against teams such as the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Islanders, and hope that teams like the Washington Capitals can be held off. It certainly doesn’t help that before the Olympic break, they lost 12 of 15 games; but they’ve won seven of their last 10 games. If they can keep this up, then they may have a better shot at the playoffs.
The Flyers players believe that they have a chance, and are confident under high pressure games like these. According to NHL.com, Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen said, "The belief and confidence is pretty high right now. It's really fun playing extremely meaningful games at this time of year. Obviously, every night is a big one. So very, very exciting."
Around PMHS, students have high hopes for the Flyers.
Sophomore JP Laughrey believes that Martone will have a good debut with the Flyers. “I think he’s going to get a goal and an assist, he’s gonna be a nice player, and also we’re gonna win.” Laughrey also believes that the Flyers will sneak into the playoffs.
The Flyers return to home ice to play the Red Wings on Thursday, April 2, then head to Long Island to play the Islanders on Friday night. With eight games left, they still have a chance to make it back for the first time in nearly six years.
Team USA advances after close call
By Grady S. and Colt W.
March 11, 2026
Team USA started competition March 6 for the World Baseball Classic; they have since gone 3-1 and outscored opponents 35-17.
The Americans dropped their last game 8-6 against Team Italy with a controversial coaching decision by manager Mark DeRosa.
According to CBS Sports, DeRosa stated, “I was on ‘Hot Stove’ with a couple of buddies today and completely misread the calculations.”
DeRosa commented on the question of why he didn’t play Team USA’s superstars. This mistake from DeRosa could have cost them to not advance to the bracket round.
With Team Italy’s win over Mexico however the US stars will advance to the bracket round. USA is going on to face Canada in the quarterfinals.
The Americans are going to have a bit of a disadvantage since they're going to be the away team.
If the US wins against Canada they will go on to play the winner of the Dominican Republic vs. Korea game.
For some it may seem like Rojas is dodging interviews with press members; others, such as those who have been interviewed about the situation, have kept their answers very cloudy and short.
According to CBS News, Nelson Cruz, the Dominican Republic team's manager, told reporters that Rojas was removed from the roster for "personal matters." Cruz was the manager in the World Baseball Classic for 2026 where he removed him from the roster.
Although it may seem like just a suspension, this is not the only time this has happened among the Phillies. First it was former Phillies player Max Kepler in January after his release and then Jose Alvarado last May.
Will an 80-game suspension strike out Rojas before his first at-bat?
By Makayla G.
March 11, 2026
In March of this year Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas attempted and still continues to contest a potential 80-game suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
The ban against PED started in 1991 but then in 2003 all players were required to get tested. The game ban started at 50 games and in 2014 increased to 80 games.
Buffalo Sabres sit atop Atlantic Division; 14-year playoff drought over?
By Kevin P.
March 11, 2026
The Buffalo Sabres have been on a roll this season. So far, they have an excellent record of 40-19-6, and they are the leaders of the Atlantic Division. Additionally, they’re on an eight game winning streak and going strong. It’s worth noting that the Sabres have not been to the playoffs since the 2010-11 season, which is the longest NHL playoff drought in history. Many fans around the league are wondering one thing: will the drought be snapped?
The Sabres have not had their fair share of success. Founded in 1970, they have only been to the Stanley Cup Finals twice and never once did they win. In the 2024-25 season, they suffered a 13-game losing streak that dropped them to last place in Eastern Conference. They ended their season at 36-39-7. Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams was fired on Dec. 15, 2025 following a 14-14-4 start, being replaced by Jarmo Kekäläinen, citing an inability to break the playoff drought. Since then, however, they have been on an incredible 26-5-2 run. Tage Thompson leads the team with 34 goals, but is playing second fiddle with 36 assists.
Perhaps one of the best examples of the Sabres’ recent success fell on Sunday, March 8 when they won a pivotal game against the Tampa Bay Lightning to lead the Atlantic Division. This was no ordinary game, as it was one of the most entertaining of the year. Both teams amassed 102 penalty minutes, there were five fights in the game, as the Sabres topped the Lightning 8-7, coming back from a 7-5 deficit. Josh Doan scored the game-winner for the Sabres, when Rasmus Dahlin fired a shot toward the net, went off the post, and Doan swept it into the net.
Doan remarked on the game-winning goal he scored on Sunday night. According to NHL.com, he said, “Obviously it’s exciting, but at the same time, I’ve been put in an opportunity to be successful here and help our team win. It’s a nice accomplishment, but we’ve got 18 or 19 games to go and hopefully we can keep racking up some wins.”
The Sabres and Lightning will meet again back in Buffalo on April 6, and that game could possibly be a preview of what we see in the playoffs. Both teams have acknowledged that as a possibility. According to The Athletic, Lightning defenseman J.J. Moser said, “If we’re being honest there, there’s a chance that we’re gonna see them down the road and that plays a part in it. You want to show them that if that’s gonna happen, they’re not gonna have their way, and that’s just how the game works.”
The race for first has begun for the Sabres and Lightning, but it’s also time for both of them to consider the race for the first seed in the conference. The Sabres have not led their own division since April 11, 2010, or almost 16 years ago. The Sabres and Lightning are second and third in the Eastern Conference respectively, with only the Carolina Hurricanes to stop them from reaching first. The Hurricanes have 88 points, the Sabres have 86 and the Lightning have 82.
The Sabres will definitely be a team to look out for in the playoffs. They only have 17 games left in the season.

NBA All-Star Fiasco
By Osstyn R. and Safair W.
Feb. 20, 2026
With the NBA All-Star Games finishing up people have mixed opinions about the games.
On Feb 13 - 15 the All-Star Game began however many people have mixed opinions because of the lack of points by the players and the new rules compared to the past few years. The last time the NBA All-Star Game entered the triple digits was 2024 when the score was 211-186, with East being the winner. That's two years with a lot of fans saying a lack of excitement.
Some fans say this is disappointing to see due to the low scoring and the lack of defense being played by elite players due to laziness. Others say that the NBA should just scrap the game altogether or just move it to the end of season so players can actually try their best instead of just using it as a rest for the real season. People are clearly not fans of the games due to the lack of competition and that the NBA has to do something about it.
Junior Jake Layfield said, “The actual All-Star Game needs more competition,” showing that some NBA fans are disappointed with the game.
Mr. Minguez said, “They need to get rid of it, there is no competition.”

Late in the fourth quarter with less than 30 seconds on the clock, Caleb Williams and his team set up on fourth down in hopes to tie the game. Pittsburgh Steelers rally to beat Baltimore Ravens in a dramatic finish
By Kevin P.
Jan. 7, 2026
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens in the final game of the NFL regular season on Sunday, Jan. 4. With the win, the Steelers win the AFC North and hang on to clinch a playoff spot.
The Ravens and Steelers both have had their highs and lows this season. The Ravens started the season 1-5, before they climbed to 8-8 and had their sights set on making the playoffs. The Steelers, who acquired veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, performed good and were 9-7. These two teams are fierce rivals, and play in the AFC North.
In the final game of the regular season, the stage was set. The winner would clinch the division and win the final spot of the playoffs. The Ravens would jump out to a 10-3 lead by halftime, with a Devontez Walker touchdown on a deep ball from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Steelers running back Connor Heyward would tie the game, and a field goal would take the lead, with the score being 13-10 by the end of the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, the game would soon change from a normal game to a barnburner.
Jackson later broke away from the defenders and zipped a pass to Zay Flowers for a 50-yard touchdown to put them up 17-13 with eight minutes left to play. After a long drive, the Steelers took the lead back with a touchdown by Kenneth Gainwell. The Ravens got the ball back, and Flowers got past the Steelers secondary again, and scored on a monstrous 64-yard touchdown. The score was 24-20, and the Steelers would need to find a way for Rodgers to come up clutch. Rodgers, who is 42 years old and has been in the NFL since 2003, is third in game-winning drives in active players.
With less than four minutes left, Rodgers drove down the field and found Calvin Austin III in the corner of the endzone, taking back the lead with only 55 seconds left. Chris Boswell, the Steelers kicker missed his first extra point in over two years, leaving the Ravens with a chance to kick a field goal, and steal the division title. On a crucial 4th and 7 with the season on the line, Jackson passed it to Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely to keep the drive going. The Ravens got down to the Steelers’ 28-yard line, and Ravens kicker Tyler Loop for a 44-yard field goal, with a chance to go to the playoffs. With the whole season on the line, Loop kicked it wide right.
As the Steelers players stormed the field and celebrated, the Ravens were crushed. The Steelers won the game 26-24, clinching the AFC North and the final playoff spot.
Both teams were feeling all sorts of emotions when the game concluded.
According to ESPN.com, Steelers defensive captain Cameron Heyward was reluctant to share how he felt about the game. Heyward said, “I'm not going to ask questions. The good Lord made a good decision tonight. I'm thankful and we keep moving on.”
According to the Ravens’ official website, Loop, who missed the winning kick said, “Just for it to end like this sucks,” Loop said in a postgame conference. “It was a great situation, exactly what we wanted, and unfortunately, I just missed the ball. We call it hitting it thin,” he said, when asked about how he thought the kick went wrong.
The Steelers will go on to play the Houston Texans, on Monday, Jan. 12 in the Wild Card round. The winner will face the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round. Rodgers, who has won four MVPs and a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers will get to play at least one more game in the NFL.
Eagles bounce back, snap losing streak against Raiders in 31-0 victory
By Kevin P.
Dec. 18, 2025
In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Philadelphia Eagles were looking to snap that streak when they returned home to play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Dec. 14. The Eagles won in shutout fashion, defeating the Raiders 31-0.
The Eagles have had their fair share of criticism, especially when they were on a three game losing streak, losing to the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Chargers. During the game against the Chargers, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw four interceptions, and lost a fumble in an overtime loss. Fans were outraged, and compared this to the collapse they had two years prior, where they started 10-1, ended 11-6 and were bounced in the first round.
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert began the scoring in the first quarter, and with a field goal and a touchdown from Saquon Barkley, the Eagles led 17-0 at halftime. Goedert scored again, and A.J. Brown scored on a deep ball in the beginning of the fourth quarter. The game ended 31-0, which is their first Eagles shutout since Week 17 of the 2018 season, and they now have a 9-5 record. Hurts rebounded from his previous performance, completing 12 out of 15 passes, throwing three touchdowns and zero interceptions.
The Eagles’ elite defense held the Raiders to only 75 total yards, the fewest the franchise has allowed in one game since 1955. Raiders quarterback Kenny Pickett, who was the backup for Hurts last season, only threw for 64 yards, was sacked four times and threw an interception in his return to Philadelphia. Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham, who recently unretired in late October, sacked Pickett twice.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was pleased with Hurts’ performance on Sunday. According to the Philadelphia Eagles’ official website, Sirianni said, "He's resilient, always has been resilient and thought he was really good running the offense, being in command out there, just making good decisions with the football, good runs. He had a good game."
Around PMHS, students and teachers were satisfied with the blowout win on Sunday.
Science teacher Mr. Coleman stated, “I thought they were gonna win against the Raiders. When I looked at the Raiders record, and I think they were motivated about they treated the coach and what they did to his home when they were blaming the coach for losing, and after the three-game losing streak.”
Coleman hopes that the Eagles will perform great throughout the rest of the season. “I think they’ll do well because they are roughly the same team that they were last year…I think they will make it to at least the first round of the playoffs. Hopefully they’ll make it to the conference championship again.”
The Eagles head to Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland to play the Washington Commanders on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. for a rematch of the 2024 NFC Championship Game. With a win, the Eagles can officially secure the NFC East.

Kiffin Under the Mistletoe

Dec. 18, 2025
Christmas came early for the University of Louisiana State as current University of Mississppi head coach Lane Kiffin signed with them. LSU offered Coach Kiffin a seven-year, $91 million contract to be their new head football coach.
Kiffin signed with the LSU Tigers only one day after his final regular season game with Ole Miss. Many people are upset with Kiffin's departure.
Junior Lucas Thomas said, “He’s a traitor” and “LSU is poverty."
However this is not the first time Kiffin has sparked drama in the college football world. Back in 2010, Kiffin controversially left the University of Tennessee for the University of Southern California after only staying in Knoxville for only a single season.
Math teacher Mrs. Fulmer said, “I do know this, Lane Kiffin is out for Lane Kiffin, he’s gonna go where the money is.”
As the holiday draws near LSU has their new head coach wrapped under the Christmas tree, and Ole Miss fans walk away this year sour as a grinch.

The Chiefs fall way behind this year

Dec. 18, 2025
The Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Dec. 14 in an attempt to keep their playoff streak alive.
The Chiefs went into the 2nd half with a 13-10 lead over the Chargers. In hopes to take down the Chargers, they went into the 3rd quarter hunting for a win, to stay within playoff contention. All of a sudden the Chiefs star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes went down grabbing at his leg.
According to ESPN.com, Mahomes said, “Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie, it hurts. But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day over and over again.”
According to ESPN.com, when asked about his opinion on the game, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said, “Starting to think this is my favorite ball team that I’ve ever been on. I’ve been on a lot of teams, none better than this team. It’s a ball team. A real ball team. Love these guys.”
There were a lot of mixed feelings concerning the outcome of the game. The Chargers were hyped to carry on to their 10th win of the season and ready for the playoffs while the Chiefs were facing their 8th loss of the season, dragging them out of playoff contention.
According to NFL.com, when asked during the press conference about his opinion on the late pass interference, Campbell said, “Yeah, well, I thought he played defence like he did the whole game, man.”
Cornerback for the Lions, Rock Ya-Sin, had a different view of the call, saying, “Oh, come on! Come on! That is terrible! That is an absolutely terrible call that's going to decide this football game!”
Both coach and Ya-Sin took different approaches to the question, one being more calm and controlled, while one not so much.
The Eagles walked away with a 16-9 win and the Lions left frustrated on a game-deciding call. The Lions fall to 6-4 while the Eagles came to a stunning 8-2 record. These two teams don't face each other in the regular season again this year. Was this the only chance for Lions redemption?

Broncos beat Chiefs

Nov. 21, 2025
Last Sunday, Nov. 16, the Denver Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 22-19.
After a tough loss in week 3 against the now 8-2 Indianapolis Colts, the Broncos have rattled off eight wins in a row. This puts the Broncos atop of the AFC West and sets them up for the number 1 seed in this year's playoffs. People speculate that this might be Denver’s year.
Math teacher Mr. Minguez said, “I think they have a good shot of making a good push deep into the playoffs.”
The Broncos are off this week with a bye, they follow that up by trying to beat every team from the NFC east as they travel to Washington D.C. Denver beat the Philadelphia Eagles 21-17, the New York Giants 33-32, and finally the Dallas Cowboys 44-24.
However, some people believe the Broncos will have little to no success in the playoffs.
Science teacher Mr. Coleman said this about the Broncos: “Same way as last season they are not going anywhere.”
The Broncos look forward to this year's playoffs hoping to keep the one seed and clinch the AFC West. Will the Broncos continue this success? Only time will tell.

Philadelphia Union extinguish the Chicago Fire in playoffs, headed to semifinals
By Kevin P.
Nov. 21, 2025
The Philadelphia Union have defeated the Chicago Fire in the first round of the MLS playoffs! The Union swept the Fire in a best-of-three, winning the first in a 2-2 draw that went down to a shootout, and winning the second in a 3-0 shutout.
Prior to the playoffs, Union won the Supporters Shield award, given to the team with the best regular season record. They ended the season with a 20-6-8 record, with 66 points. Winning the Shield secures home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Union has had their fair share of recent playoff success, making it to the MLS Cup in 2022, and the Conference Finals in 2021.
Their playoff run began on Sunday, Oct. 26 with Game 1 at Subaru Park in Chester, PA. Game 1 began uneventful, until Union midfielder Indiana Vassilev scored a goal in the 70th minute, followed by Union forward Milan Iloski scoring in the 75th minute. The Fire began to fight back with the time they had left, with Fire left winger Jonathan Bamba and center-back Jack Elliott scoring goals, which led to a penalty shootout. Union won the shootout 4-2, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.
Game 2 took place at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, with Union jumping out to a 2-0 lead, with two goals by Union All-Star game MVP forward Tai Baribo scoring in the 8th and 16th minute. Union forward Bruno Damiani scored in the 35th minute to take a 3-0 lead. The match ended in full time 3-0, with Union goalkeeper Andre Blake recording a clean sheet.
The Union have advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, who will be playing against rivals New York City FC, on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Subaru Park in Chester, PA. The series is only one match, and the winner will face the winner of the FC Cincinnati vs. Inter Miami CF matchup in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Union remain optimistic on how far they will go in the playoffs.
According to the MLS’ official website, majority owner of the Union, Jay Sugarman said, “Our goal right now is to win a cup. You can feel it in the players, you can feel it in the coaching staff, you can feel it at the ownership level. It feels like the one thing we haven't quite gotten our hands on, and there's no question that success will open doors for us that maybe aren't quite open yet.”
At the last leg of Union’s playoff run in 2022, they made it to the MLS Cup, playing the Los Angeles Football Club. After a 3-3 draw and extra time, they lost 3-0 in penalties, leaving the team and fans devastated.
Also according to the MLS’ official website, after they clinched their spot into the semifinals, Baribo stated, “We knew that today they would come to press high, come to play because they are in front of their fans. We knew that the team that would score first would probably be the team to win the game. So, this is what we did."
With the Eastern Conference Semifinals right around the corner, the question is, how far will the Union go?

Sophomore Payten Piel said, “I’m an Eagles fan but I think the Minnesota Vikings are good but also want the Eagles to win.”
After this Sunday many people have been comparing Drake Maye to the GOAT Tom Brady.
Junior and Patriots fan Brian Kline Said, “I think he will do pretty well fulfilling the legacy, championship wise he might get one or two”
Many people also believe that Maye will never be as successful as Brady.
Junior Hunter Coulburn said, “I don’t think he can fulfill Tom Brady's legacy.”
As we enter this weekend, Maye’s Patriots will face Cam Ward’s Tennessee Titans; will Maye have another “Brady type performance” to keep this Patriots team rolling? Find out this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Last weekend, Drake Maye showed hope for the city of New England. Maye passed for over 250 yards, which is the first time a Patriots quarterback has done that since the great Tom Brady.
Not only did Maye pass for over 250 yards he threw for three touchdown passes in a 25-19 win over the Saints. With this performance Maye has led his underdog Patriots team to first in the AFC North.

The Philadelphia Phillies took a devastating loss in the 2025 National League Division Series.

PMHS junior Gavin Spears had little hope for the Phillies. “I honestly thought they were gonna lose, but not as bad as it was.”
Sophomore Scotty Streitz had some hope in the Phillies. “I thought the Phillies were gonna win, but it would be close.”
The Phillies started off the series on a bad note, losing to the Dodgers 5-3, which started the beginning of a bad series for the Phils. Some fans believe that the Phillies hitting performance was the cause of the final outcome.
Spears believes the Phillies hitting performance was awful. “The hitting was god awful, it made me never want to watch baseball ever again.”
In the end, the Phillies could not pull through, finishing the series with a 1-3 record against the Dodgers. They will advance to the National League Championship series with a chance to go to the World Series.
The New York Giants stomped on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night
By Aiden C.
Oct. 17, 2025
The New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Giants' MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 9, in a crazy game with their new rookie QB and RB Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. They are a crazy duo with the Giants racking up 34 points, and the Eagles only having 17. The Giants might have a great year this year with how they're playing, but Eagles fans are devastated with the loss, with the Birds winning the Super Bowl last year.
Fans are speculating about their chances of going to the Bowl again.
Junior Jacob Kimani said, “I do not think the Eagles are going to the Super Bowl again anytime soon. It's a Patriots era; they’re fourth in the AFC. Everyone doubted him, but they're back up. The Eagles' offensive coordinator, they gotta get rid of him; they either run too much or pass too much, it's never a middle; they find the middle, they might be good.”
Junior Jacob Miller said, “I think Jaxson Dart and Cam Skat are the most exciting rookie duo in the league. Cam Skats’ CTE is gonna be an issue, but I'm loving to see it, and Jaxson Dart is an egoist, so he's always fun to watch.”

Football has always been a big part of who I am, and my passion for the game is still strong. I’m excited to keep working, improving, and continuing to play the sport I love."

Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays face off in the ALCS
By Kevin P.
Oct. 17, 2025
The American League Championship Series is underway! The Toronto Blue Jays, with the #1 seed, and the Seattle Mariners, with the #2 seed, will be facing off, with the winner getting to play in the World Series in a best-of-seven. The winner will face the champion of the National League Championship Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers.
The Blue Jays advanced by defeating the New York Yankees, capitalizing off a poor starting rotation and defensive mistakes, and the Mariners advanced by defeating the Detroit Tigers. The Mariners capped off their series against the Tigers in a winner-take-all Game 5, when the game extended to 15 innings. Jorge Polanco delivered the game-winning hit to send the Mariners to the ALCS, the first time they’ve gone since 2001.
The ALCS began on Sunday, Oct. 12, with the Mariners defeating the Blue Jays in Toronto for Game 1. The Blue Jays began the 1st inning with a home run, but they wouldn’t score another run after this. Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, the current MLB home run leader, and second baseman Jorge Polanco, scored three runs to win Game 1, 3-1. The next day, the Mariners won Game 2. Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, Polanco, and first baseman Josh Naylor all hit home runs, as the Mariners slugged their way to a 10-3 victory. In Game 3, the Mariners returned to their home crowd in Seattle, but the Blue Jays stole the show. In a must-win game, the Blue Jays offense powered their way to a 13-4 victory.
Although the Mariners come into this series as underdogs, they remain optimistic. According to MLB.com, Naylor said, "In these playoff moments, you can’t be fatigued. Every game matters. Every pitch matters. Every opportunity matters. You don’t want to have an excuse in these situations; these games are too important.”
Around PMHS, there were some varying opinions regarding the series.
English teacher Mrs. Dobson said, “I like the Blue Jays. I think they’re up and coming team…I hope they win the whole thing. I think it’s difficult to come back to win [the ALCS], but they have enough games left so they can bounce back.”
Will the Blue Jays win and go to the World Series for the first time since 1993, or will it be the Mariners, who have never been to the World Series in franchise history?

The Lions' next game is against the Cleveland Browns, which should be an easy win for them. The Ravens play against the Kansas City Chiefs, which may be pretty challenging for them, but would be a great game to watch.

Both teams enter “Happy Valley” undefeated, but will this crazy atmosphere trap the Ducks in the Lion’s den or will the Ducks fly away victorious?
Junior Hunter Coulbourn said, “I think it’s [whiteout] amazing, everybody at the college shows their support wearing white.”
Freshman Kane Green and Coulbourn both believe that the Penn State whiteout is the best tradition in college football.
You can catch the game this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
