Did the Cougars scratch the Eagles' chance at the division title?
By Sam H. and JP L.
Jan. 23, 2026
The Schalick Cougars wrestling team (3-0 in Tri-County Classic) traveled to Pennsville (3-1 in TCC) to take them on in a divisional matchup on the Eagles youth night. After taking the first three matches with pins from Brett Land, Erick Davalos, and Earl Wynn, the Eagles then lost eight of their last 11 matches.
The Eagles were expecting a win.
Sophomore wrestler Dalton Ammon stated, “I expected it to be a close match; we could have won or lost, but I didn’t expect it to be a blowout.”
Sophomore John Sassi stated, “There were definitely some matches they should have won, but they got caught in awkward positions and it led to them getting pinned.”
With this loss, the Eagles' chances at the division title are slim but not none.
Ammon stated, “I think that the team potentially has a chance to still win the division, but it is going to be very close.”
Sassi stated, “There is a chance that they could win the division but it will be way harder for them to do it now, Schalick would have to lose to a team we already beat.”
Although the Eagles took the loss, they still have a slim shot at winning the TCC division.

Boys basketball is off to another slow start this year
By Aiden C., Bri P. and Piper R.
Dec. 18, 2025
The boys' basketball team is off to another slow start this year, having lost their first and second scrimmages and committed 57 and 37 turnovers throughout those games, resulting in barely any points.
The opposing teams had a huge lead early in the games, and the boys couldn't seem to get the ball over half-court to run plays. Is it because they're tired, or are they just used to losing and don't care anymore?
The boys have a new head coach and a new assistant coach, with the last season's assistant coach being fired and the head coach stepping down to coach somewhere else. The old head coach had zero winning seasons, and many say he drove the team to the ground, with not a single record being good.
Sophomore Adrian Allenye doesn’t think they will have the same results as last season, “if we do what we need to do in practice and get the job done.”
Junior Mason O'Brien said, “I think we're gonna have a lot better season than we did last year. We have a lot more experienced players this year.”
The players are thinking they're gonna have a better season than last year.

Pennsville Boys Soccer comes to an eventful close
By Sam H. and JP L.
Nov. 21, 2025
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Eagles (9 seed) headed to Glassboro (8 seed) for the first round of the South Jersey Group One Soccer playoffs.
The teams had faced off twice before, once in the Pitman Summer League final, with Pennsville taking a 3-1 loss. They also faced off in a regular-season match, and the Eagles took a 1-0 loss. With two losses, the Eagles were looking to get back and take the upset.
Both teams had good chances early in the game, but both defenses held their ground. But in the 38th minute of the game, the Eagles snatched the first goal of the game when senior midfielder Edwin Sanchez served a free kick into the opposing 18 and sophomore forward Sam Hassler put it away.
The game against Glassboro was the first playoff win in 11 years for the Eagles, adding to their already historic season.
Sophomore left back Jackson Mecholsky stated, “It felt great, we were going in as the underdogs, and to come out on top against a pretty good team felt really good. I’m sure a lot of other people, especially our seniors, felt really good about it.”
Coming out of Glassboro with a win was great for the Eagles, but their next opponent would be Haddon Township (1 seed), who they lost to 6-0 in the playoffs the previous season.
The first half of the game was a dogfight with multiple missed calls for both sides. At the end of the half, the score was 2-0 Haddon Township. However, in the second half, the Eagles fell apart, and the final score ended up being 6-0.
Head Coach Derek Foglein stated,“I mean, whenever we go to Haddon Township, it's always going to be a battle. They are always going to be one of the best teams in South Jersey, and it just so happens that on Friday [Nov. 14] They ended up winning the South Jersey Group 1 title, so losing to them, while it sucks and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, you can respect the fact that they have a really good team.”
Overall, the Eagles' season was a success, winning the Tri-County Classic Division for the first time in 32 years and getting their first playoff win in 11. They also led all of Tri-County with nine all-star selections. Senior goal keeper Coen Rinnier, senior forward Danny Coronel, senior defender Stevie Fatcher, junior defender Brant Regner, and junior midfielder Justin Michaca made the first team. Senior midfielder Edwin Sanchez, sophomore midfielder JP Laughrey, sophomore defender Jackson Mecholsky, and sophomore forward Sam Hassler made the second team.

Senior Gina Haubrich said, “My plans as a captain is to make sure all the girls feel welcomed as a team. I want to make sure we have a good strong team, and also make sure the girls are going to try their best this year. Overall I want the girls to set a goal and reach their goal by the end of the season.”
With the season finally about to start, the focus shifts from mastering the takedown to winning matches.

Overall, the team is very proud of the great season they had, with a 10-6-2 regular season record and one playoff victory. Boys soccer's greatest accomplishment is the division win, being the first in 32 years.

This event is something that many people can enjoy.
Before the game, freshman player Jaiden Wilson predicted, “I think that the seniors are gonna win because they have more experience and they've been playing for longer.” She believed that her team would play decently, even though she said that they could be a little better.
Cheerleader Conner Dowens stated, “It is kind of embarrassing, but it's fun at the same time.”
After the game many students had strong opinions about what happened.
Sophomore coach Osttyn Rodriguez angrily exclaimed, “Oh my team did horrible, I’m not happy with the performance at all. We lost even against the freshman.”
Who do you think will win next year's PowderPuff game?
Pennsville and Pitman tie in Boys Soccer
By Sam H. and JP L.
Oct. 17, 2025
The Eagles (8-4) traveled to Pitman on Wednesday Oct 8, to take on the Panthers (6-5) on their senior night. Going into the game the Panthers (TCC Diamond), being in a higher division, were expected to beat the Eagles (TCC Classic).
The Eagles players knew it was going to be a rough atmosphere with all of the Pitman fans.
Senior center back Stephen Fatcher stated, “The Pitman atmosphere was great, I loved making them angry.”
The game was played on Pitman's football field; multiple players were slipping in the mud and it was affecting the play.
Coach Derek Foglein stated, “It was a messy night playing on a football field. I think both teams struggled to complete passes; it really mattered who played harder in the midfield. It was an even game all the way through, and the scoreline reflected it.”
This game helped put the Eagles into a better position for a home playoff game which was one of their goals along with winning the division which they are also on track for.
Will the PMHS Eagles claw their way to the playoffs?
By Briana P. and Piper R.
Oct. 17, 2025
Last football season the PMHS Eagles made it to the playoffs, but will they make it this year?
Last season they were defeated by Woodstown with the score of 21-6. Woodstown advanced to the finals while Pennsville's season ended with a 6-5 record.
Sophomore Kyla Plazio said, “Our team kind of sucks.”
Sophomore Kelcie Regner said, “I think it really just depends on if we win the game this week and next week then will we go to the playoffs but if we lose, no.
In this 2025-26 season Pennsville's current record is 3-4, losing their most recent game by only 12 points.
With only two weeks left to prepare themselves hopefully they get those wins and make it to the playoffs.

Boys soccer can win the division for the first time in 32 years
By John S. and Jesse T.
Oct. 17, 2025
Boys Soccer could’ve clinched the division on Oct. 14 against Clayton but the 3-0 loss against the Clippers is making Pennsville work harder against the last two division opponents.
Making history isn't easy. Many good Pennsville soccer teams came up short but this year it's different.
Head coach Derek Foglein said, ¨Our team moved from being just good athletes to actually good soccer players. This is what Coach Joe and I worked on as coaches with possession and passing, and it shows on the field.”
Senior captain Stephen Fatcher said, ¨This team is very strong in defense, and we have the pleasure of not having much competition in the division, unlike last year. ¨
With a win over Gloucester Catholic and Salem, they can win the division. It is looking good for Pennsville as they beat Salem 7-0 and Gloucester Catholic 4-0 earlier this season.
The Eagles take down the Clippers in double OT
By Sam H. and JP L.
Sept. 25, 2025
The Clayton Clippers (4 - 1) traveled to Pennsville (2 - 2) for their divisional matchup against the Eagles.
After 80 minutes of battling in the field, the game was tied at 0 - 0, so the game headed into overtime.
Head Coach Derek Foglein said, “I knew it was going to be a big game, and I knew it was a game that we were going to fight for our division, and I always like playing against my old high school.”
After 10 minutes of OT, both teams were still searching for the goal to seal the game. But 37 seconds into the second half of OT, the Eagles found what they were looking for.
“It felt mind-boggling, that's the one word I can use. Everybody flooded me, it was hard to stand up, it was the best moment of my life,” said PMHS junior Lucas Cooksey after scoring the game-winning goal.
“I thought it was a huge win, I think that it was only my second overtime win in my coaching career, and a game we absolutely needed, so I'm really glad we got the win, and I'm excited to play them at their place,” said Coach Foglein.
Straight off the kick, forwards Cooksey, Danny Bunay Coronel and Sam Hassler pressed. The three forced a pass from the Clippers' center back, which Coronel won. Coronel then crossed the ball then, the Clippers keeper came out to clear it. But unfortunately for him, it landed at the feet of Cooksey, who tapped it in to seal the game.
This crucial win put the Eagles in charge of the classic division.

PMHS faces a tough field hockey game against Audubon
By Riley E. and Addisyn H.
Sept. 25, 2025
PMHS Field Hockey goes against Audubon on Sept. 23 at 4:00 p.m. The final score was 6-2 with Audubon stealing the win. Both goals for PMHS were made by Kylie Harris.
Junior Kendall Hoyt made a prediction on how the game would go.
She stated, “I think the game is going to go really good, and I think we’re going to communicate a lot, and use teamwork together to beat Audubon.”
In the end her prediction was wrong.
Many of the team members believed they could have played a better game.
Freshman Aubrey Manorowitz claimed, “I feel like we started to look up when passing but our sticks weren't on the ground and our knees weren't bent. We could've done better communicating more but I agree with what our other teammate said about how it's starting to click for us and what we need to do.”
Will this loss affect their season or will it push them harder to strive to be stronger players?

Not on Friday night, not even on Saturday night, but on Thursday, Oct. 9. PMHS Football will play against Paulsboro at the Lou D’Angelo Stadium for their homecoming game.
Last year's Homecoming game against Penns Grove was sensational due to Pennsville getting the boot back after almost a decade of not having it.
Freshman Blake Marts said, “I like that [the dance is] on a Friday because it means we don't have to go to school on Friday,” and, “I'm excited, hopefully we win.”
Sophomore Andre Dowe said, “I am so happy that [the dance] is on a Friday instead of Saturday because I just love Fridays.”
The Eagles are 1-3 while the Red Raiders are 5-0.
Overall this is a very exciting upcoming event, with many students thrilled waiting and preparing for the day to come.
