What happens if I am on academic probation?
First, don’t panic. Students on academic probation should submit an academic probation appeal to earn extended time to improve their CGPA and/or pace.
How do I submit an academic probation appeal?
Students should complete and submit the appeal form online. You can find the form here. Please contact your Student Advisor if you need assistance.
Do I have to submit an academic probation appeal? Why?
It is recommended all students on academic probation submit an appeal. By earning an approved appeal, students may get an extra three terms to raise their grades and/or pace.
What if I choose to not submit an academic probation appeal? While the appeal is not required, students should keep in mind that life can interfere in the current term and by not having an approved appeal on file, academic dismissal is a possibility. If during the current term, students are unable to meet the minimum requirements, they will be dismissed.
Why should I appeal if I might be able to meet standards at the end of my first term on probation? Life happens and sometimes it happens again in following terms. Therefore, it is important to have a cushion that allows you extra terms to raise your GPA and/or pace, should the need arise. There is no downside to having an approved probation appeal on file.
Where do I find the academic probation appeal form?

When will I be notified of the academic probation appeal decision?
Appeals are reviewed during the last few weeks of the term and students will be notified before the end of the term.
Why are appeals reviewed at the end of the term? The Dean’s Office will review appeals late in the term in order to review the student’s grades. The Dean’s Office is looking to see that the student is passing all classes and that the action plan is working.
Can I take a leave of absence while I am on academic probation?
No. A leave of absence in the middle of the term will result in a W grade, which will cause academic dismissal. Students can; however, take a leave of absence after the term ends.
Do I have to pass my classes if I have an approved academic probation appeal?
Yes. Students must pass all classes while on academic probation, including final probation.
What happens if I do not pass my classes while on academic probation? Academic dismissal will follow for any student who does not pass all classes while on academic probation.
What happens if my appeal is approved?

What is final probation? Final probation means a student has an approved academic probation on file and has a maximum of three terms to improve his/her GPA and/or pace.
What is the difference between academic probation and final academic probation? Academic probation is the status in the first term when a student is not meeting the minimum CGPA and/or pace requirements. Academic probation is for one term only. Final probation can last up to three terms if a student continues to meet each term’s minimum requirements. Students must have an approved appeal to reach final probation status.
Are there requirements I need to meet even with an approved probation appeal? Yes! After an approved appeal, students must still pass all classes each term they are on probation and final probation. Students must also meet a minimum grade in each class while on final probation.
What is the minimum grade I need to meet while on final probation? Students must maintain a 2.5 term GPA for each term on final probation. For example earning a B- in each class would meet the 2.5 term GPA minimum.
Can I still be dismissed if my appeal is approved? Yes. Students who do not pass every class will be dismissed. Students who do not meet the minimum grade requirements for each term will be dismissed.
What happens if my appeal is denied?
Sometimes an appeal is denied. Do not give up! Now is the time to work on submitting late work. Students may still get off probation if they meet the minimum requirements to meet CGPA and/or pace.
What are the minimum requirements to remain in school if my appeal is denied? Undergraduate students must have a 2.0 CGPA and a 66.6% pace. Reach out to your student advisor for confirmation on what is needed to meet both criteria.
Will I be dismissed if my appeal is denied? Not all students are dismissed if their appeal is denied. Reach out to your student advisor for confirmation on what is needed to meet CGPA and pace minimums.
What are some reasons why an appeal is denied? A student’s appeal will be denied if s/he is not passing all their classes. The appeal will also be denied if it contains numerous writing errors or does not have a strong, well-defined action plan.
What happens if I need to withdraw while on probation?
Students who withdraw from the University at the end of term while still on probation, will not be able to return in good standing. This means students will have to go through the appeal process with a thorough review to determine if they are eligible to return. Students who withdraw from a course while on probation will be academically dismissed for not passing all their classes.
How much time should I devote to classes to be successful?
Undergraduate students should expect to spend approximately 3 hours per credit per week per class. Therefore, students taking a 5 credit course should estimate 10-15 hours a week.
