AAS in Criminal Justice and Criminology

What motivated you to want to go to college and Purdue Global in particular?

I had always wanted to go to college, but I did not think I would ever be able to go because I couldn't afford to pay for it out of pocket. A friend told me about financial aid and how easy it was to set up. The college near me did not offer criminal justice and criminology as a degree, so I started searching for online colleges. Purdue Global stood out to me and I am really glad I chose it.

What is one challenge you have faced in continuing or completing your studies/degree? How did you overcome that challenge?

The most challenging thing while I complete my studies/degree has been balancing time for work and school. I have been able to overcome this challenge by scheduling certain times to study and do school work around my work schedule. As long as I stick to my organized schedule, I do not have any problems.

What was your most positive experience at Purdue Global and why?

I continue having very positive experiences at Purdue Global. I like everything from learning from the textbooks to engaging in seminars and discussion boards.

How has going to college impacted you and your family?

Going to college has impacted my life positively because I have learned so much already and I continue to learn every day!

As for family, my dog is happy whenever I stay home and study because he loves to cuddle.

What advice would you give to first-generation college students thinking about attending Purdue Global?

Stay organized. Have a weekly planner so you can write down when your school work is due and when seminars are. It may not seem very useful, but it can really help you stay on track. A planner is also great for keeping track of your discussion board posts, such as what you still need to do and what you have already done for the week.

Attend seminars when you can! It's a great way to engage in the week's learning and to ask questions.

Never give up. You will be surprised at how much you will learn. Read those textbooks!
