What motivated you to want to go to college and Purdue Global in particular?

I felt it was important to be an example for my children and the students I serve each day. Additionally. I see the difference that an education can make, I want that for myself, and for future generations. Purdue was a great choice for me because I could work and attend classes on my own time. Advisors were helpful and able to schedule seminars for evenings that worked with my schedule.

What is one challenge you have faced in continuing or completing your studies/degree? How did you overcome that challenge?

In the same month, my father and my husband's father died, I planned a wedding and my son got married, and I became very ill. However, classes were a way for me to relax and escape. I have been thankful for the time to exchange thoughts with other adults and my professors have kept me grounded.

What was your most positive experience at Purdue Global and why?

My communications classes with Prof. Waldow have been wonderful, but I especially enjoyed Social Perspectives of Death and Dying with. Prof Panayotova. She encouraged thought provoking conversations and made the class amazing. I have been blessed with several great teachers and support staff here, and the opportunity to take the portfolio class EL206 saved me almost 2 years of class time (9 classes). It was a lot of effort but I learned so much about myself during the process.

How has going to college impacted you and your family?

My husband and children see the effort I am putting in and tell me how proud they are. But I am proud of myself and what I have accomplished. Living proof that learning is a life long process.

What advice would you give to first-generation college students thinking about attending Purdue Global?

Know you can. Even when its hard, and the day has been long, you must have faith in yourself. In the end you will be so pleased that you said you did this for yourself and the ones you love.
