What motivated you to want to go to college and Purdue Global in particular?

I always knew I wanted to go to college, but every college I went to didn't seem to challenge me enough to keep me motivated. I did research and I found Purdue Global. I remembered hearing about Purdue Global and how great the experience at this school is. I decided to make a fresh start and I am so glad I did!

What is one challenge you have faced in continuing or completing your studies/degree? How did you overcome that challenge?

One challenge I have faced in continuing my studies was always keeping myself motivated. For a very long time I was an English major. While I enjoyed my English classes, they were always too easy and so repetitive that I just found myself not wanting to do the work. When I came to Purdue Global, I decided I was going to discover what I am passionate about. I switched my major twice, and now I'm motivated more than ever because I have a clear vision of my goals and my plan to get there.

What was your most positive experience at Purdue Global and why?

My most positive experience at Purdue Global was taking PS115 - Psychology Program and Profession. This class opened my eyes to the many different avenues in psychology. I found my career path from this class. My professor was wonderful and constantly reminded us why we do what we do and was extremely encouraging to everyone in their career goals.

How has going to college impacted you and your family?

Being the youngest of three, when I decided to go to college and remained consistent, I noticed my older sisters started talking about going to college. My parents constantly encourage my college goals and my career path as they can see how serious I am about finishing my degree.

What advice would you give to first-generation college students thinking about attending Purdue Global?

Create SMART goals for yourself. It is great to have dreams, but when you write out SMART goals, which are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-based, your dreams become real. Visualize your life after you have received your degree and focus on that when you feel yourself procrastinating; it will put you right back on track! And probably the most important advice I would give is to believe that you are worthy of having your degree. You can do whatever you set your mind to.
